I would have said yes 10 years ago.

I just have no faith in large groups of people or bureaucracies acting rationally.

Like this is a bioweapon attack and we’re about to go to global war.

Occam's Razor: It is a fricking virus and the citizens have become a "zero risk tolerated" group of children expecting the 'daddy Gov' to protect them.

I don’t think bureaucracy has much to do with it right now, this has been spearheaded from the top for a while.

To me this “new analysis” is room for optimism. It indicates they know this thing will fizzle out sooner than they want and we can begin recovering.

Yep. Gotta keep the crisis alive.

Agree. There is nothing remarkable about this virus. Its just that its very difficult for a political leader to be damaged for doing "too much", and the corporate world is equally apt to act in a way that minimizes litigation risk. "If it saves just one life..."

This will be the new normal.

Months of economic shutdown will throw us into a depression worse than the 1930s. And you can kiss goodbye to Main Street businesses. And hello massive inflation due to Govt printing money to hand out to people.

If it lasts a month then damage will be minimal and we will have rebounded by Q3. If it lasts 5-6 months it’ll take 3-5 years to recover at least

The Fed has been "printing money" for over a decade and there isn't a bit of inflation yet.

I keep a glimmer of hope alive that there will be a large backlash to it instead ———— a glimmer.

you think a week is all we need?

No but I do think if we pause for a week we will know a hell of a lot more, the trials will have time to get some traction and people's fricking fears will settle down.

There is a time value to panic and the panic curve is pretty steep. I never thought I would see in this country shelves that look like Cuba and the Soviet Union in the grocery stores. I mean come on, no toilet paper because of panic buying? Really? This is fricking America we persevere, we adapt, we overcome, we help one another out.

So that is what I think the week gets us. Time to stop, think, and realize we all are not going to die in a mushroom cloud.

tell that to the various levels of government who have increased panic by seizing more power EVERY day

your goal is to lessen panic by inducing a ton of panic, and the ultimate goal is to flatten the curve, which will take a long time

i think they're going to have to re-think response policy across all levels

i'm in the corner that there will be a backlash, but it will be the panic-irrational kind (in some areas, not everywhere)

want curfew. Armed patrols roaming around to ensure compliance. All first time offenders are placed on a list and given an ankle monitor. Second time offenders are met with violence. It’s time to flatten the curve.

Yeah what are you gonna do about the destruction of our economy in millions of lives? While you practice your social distance he?

Hence the need for “ muh new analyses” to suggest the latter . They know that a crippled economy on the mend still puts the Don back in the White House
