try that for Bacchus Sunday

We share an apt on St Charles but we also share a spot on at Camp and Napoleon on Sunday. We usually wait until Uptown clears out on Saturday afternoon and go bring our tables, chairs and tents to the neutral ground and tie it all together and leave it in the middle overnight. We have a bunch of NOFD in our group that usually gets out there around 5-6 am Sunday when they get off their shift and start setting up. We usually show up around 8-9 am and have never had any issues.

But if you think you’re going to show up Sunday morning at 11-12 and get a decent spot you’re fooling yourself

You are somehow trying to defend entitled people who just leave shite unattended along a parade route well before a parade rolls to claim a spot. That's as selfish as it gets.

I like to imagine LNCHBOX has never even been to a new orleans mardi gras parade but still feels the need to argue with everyone on the subject

Right. You either plan to be out there all day bright and early, or you understand what you've got to deal with if you just want to see Bacchus or even just stroll up for the beginning of Thoth.

I'll do one or the other depending on mine and my family's moods. I've been able to teach my kids to understand that sometimes they will be in a great spot, sometimes they won't.

Nuts, huh?

will say that no one can own public land and it's ridiculous for people to attempt to keep anyone else from standing where they want to to watch a parade.

If everyone used common sense it would be fine BUT they don’t. I saw a group last year on the St. Charles neutral ground who had six or eight ladders on the curb and then they strapped plywood to the front of the ladders forming a continuous wall so no one could walk between or under their ladders. shite like that is where regulations come from.

Parades are already rolling by then, of course you won't find a good spot

ETA: If you get out there two hours before the first parade on any day, besides Endymion or Zulu, you will easily find a good spot.

negative.

Karen and Nancy won't even know it's gone until 530 pm.

Don't believe for a second there aren't frantic texts and phone calls going out left and right over this as we discuss this here at this moment.

Why don't they do this for bum encampments?

They actually do once or twice a month. A few years ago their was a ridiculous rat infestation and signs of plague so they started doing it.

I know because I pass by almost every day in the morning. They clean it all out in the morning once or twice a month, bum encampment is back by noon.

That's EXACTLY how it happens, actually. If the city does nothing, St. Charles and Napoleon would have ladders tied together across the front lines, staring at 9 am yesterday until 3 pm Mardi Gras day.

I always shake my head when I see it, with the bums orderly moving out the way for the city guys to clean up around and after them, thinking these frickers have better maid service than I do.

I probably should've worded it better. For most parades, you can probably find a decent spot if you get there at least an hour before...obviously I know that ain't happening if you show up an hour before Bacchus, Endymion, or Rex

Here is my long-standing belief on this situation.

If you are out there with your stuff, no one should mess with you. You probably don't need as much space as you claim, but whatever.

If you put your stuff out there, but aren't with it, then you have abandoned your property. Abandoned property can be disposed of or relocated by anyone, because it's abandoned.

To me, this is no different than when a line forms hours in advance for concert tickets or black friday deals or whatever. Can you just go stick 6 chairs in line and claim that holds your spot in line, and show up an hour before the sale begins? No, you cannot. This is no different.

The problem is you can show up 6 hours before Bacchus, Rex, Endymion, etc, and not find a decent spot because everyone has left their stuff out all alone with no one watching it.

False. This is your opinion.

As I stated earlier, I have been attending parades on St Charles for decades the majority of which the city has had zero enforcement of this type and it is a complete non issue.

Do you think there will be a single difference in the appearance or function of the parade route along Napoleon and St Charles?

Starting this evening, it will look exactly as it has for the last 30 years all the way through Tuesday.

Rolling a few trucks through this morning and tomorrow morning won't change a damn thing.

Complete waste of time.

I love that being committed to getting a spot is entitled. This has no effect on you unless you are one of the actual entitled people that think they can just stroll up at the start time and get a good spot.

Can you just let the people that know what they're talking about post?

Bacchus has parades 6 hours before it, and people are out on the route all day in between Thoth and Bacchus.

If you show up to Rex at 1AM, you will easily find a good spot. I go to Zulu every year and then walk down by Superior for Rex. There are many spots I could put a ladder up, but we don't do ladders on Mardi Gras Day.

And for Zulu I get to where I watch the parade around 7-7:30 most years and have no issues getting up front.

I'm not sure what you do at Mardi Gras, but you do it wrong if you think what you've said is anywhere close to true.

Not false. Not my opinion. It is fact.

I've attended parades for a long, long time too, and in the more popular areas (Napoleon, St Charles before Washington), it is a MASSIVE issue.

I guess if you stand on St Charles and Melpomene it's not an issue, but getting shot is.

Fewer fights for one. Different people geting the good spots, instead of one group getting the good spots.

It will change things today and tomorrow. If they don't keep it up, then by Friday, yes, things will revert to the old way.

Quality of life issue. This city has many, many, MANY problems but this is one thing they are getting right.

If you don't like it, take a few days off and stay with your stuff.
