I liked the 24 hour rule last year personally. You are of the opinion that most abused it and left stuff out and didn't show up til last second.
I'm of the opinion that most people don't do it that way. We aren't going to agree, so let;'s just call it a day.

I think the reality is this.

The city will do these sweeps today, tomorrow, and probably Friday.

But they won't pay overtime for this. So by mid-afternoon Friday, there won't be any more sweeps. They won't pay extra help to do this on Sat and Sun (all of the regular working shifts on the weekend are assigned to post-parade clean up). Few people work Monday, so they won't have the staff to do it, and Tuesday is like Sat / Sun.

I personally think doing it some days is better than others. You may think it's not worth it. Oh well.

Enjoy your Mardi Gras

Bro, he's not. That's where we set up on Saturday afternoon and by 6 am Sunday morning there are hardly any open spots for a big group...and people start getting out there at 5-6 am.

Yeah if it's just you and your old lady, then yes, you can probably find a spot by the port o lets.

Historically, they have done something similar on one day.

Today is one day later than last year. Last year it was Tuesday and they tried to take it all.

This year it's Wednesday and they are only taken what is unattended.

If I were a betting man, I'd say this is it. But possibly tomorrow.

The volume of stuff out there quickly becomes overwhelming for all but the most aggressive enforcement.

They would need 10 flatbed 18 wheelers.

Link to the rules? I'm not saying that's not in the rules, I'd just be interested in reading them if they're available.

Some of these people with ridiculous set ups are dickheads.

Last year my buddy and I, with our wives, walked up for Endymion behind a group, behind all their kids, parents and ladders, but still in their area that they had laid a bunch of plywood down for across most of the neutral ground. And we're standing watching the parade, and they sent over an old prick "Y'all need to keep it moving, this is our spot". I laughed "ain't happening boss, you don't own this neutral ground." The rest of the parade we got dirty looks from the women in the group, were called "assholes" "bitches" etc.

Let me be clear, we weren't being confrontational, weren't drunk acting an arse, just the 4 of us standing watching the parade, catching beads. We even gave most of the throws to the kids around us, because it's not their fault the adults in their life are assholes.

Then a man and his girlfriend in the group got into a physical fist fight so that was fun to watch.

Anybody know where they are going with those trucks? I could use a new ladder and tarp.

Last year the rule was 24 hours. So they could not have any enforcement after Tuesday, because after 6 pm Tuesday, there is pretty much always a parade "within 24 hours".

You may end up being correct - today or tomorrow may be the end of it. But moving the rule from 24 hours down to 4 hours does change the dynamic for what they CAN do. Not saying they will do.

I set up ladders and tarps and a canopy and I hate assholes like you described.

When someone is lingering around afraid to step on my tarp or near a ladder I try to go out of my way to welcome them to stand wherever the hell they want. I tell them point blank no one out here owns this land.

People get along just fine but with some exceptions obviously.

Looking at the amount of stuff in trucks, and the amount of empty space, tells me that before they started picking up stuff, pretty much all of the "front row" was "claimed". And probably a good bit of the second run.

Are streetcars running at the moment?

So if you have stuff out more than 4 hours prior to a parade and it’s unattended, it’s subject to removal? I don’t see an issue with that.

Im pretty sure they are and most of the stuff the are picking up are on the sidewalk side and between the street and the street car tracks

I cant imagine anyone is dumb enough to leave their shite between the 2 tracks

We do the same thing ESPECIALLY if kids are involved.

I'm to the point where 80 percent of the parade, I'm sitting down in my chair drinking and cutting up with friends, keeping an eye on the kids and occasionally getting up when one of my kids asks me to stand with them, or if I know someone passing by on a float or in a marching unit.

We used to, once a parade started, pack up most of our chairs and our canopy, but people started walking off with them, so now we leave them up.
