I've worked in IT for more than 20 years and went to college for it as well. Additionally I was an information systems operator in the Army where not only I went to school but learned on the job. I learned a lot more through experience and having to learn changes as they happen often. What we were doing 10 years ago is a lot different now.
Well that's great but you're not creating new technology, you are managing the current one and busy trying to adapt the upcoming one. IT is IT
Creating new (advancement) Technology is the subject here

with all due respect your mom is teaching people how to use technology... She is not teaching students how to development new technology.
Do you think farmers don’t develop new methods or new farm tech?

*sigh* If you're going to talk about something, at least know what the frick you're talking about.
First off, I'm a consultant. I've done work for multi-billion dollar organizations changing the way we manage technology as well as developing new techniques that allowed for deployments of new apps and systems going forward. So no, it's not just managing shite. Even off-the-shelf software still needs to be managed, deployed, and maintained in a unique manner depending on the business and it's needs.
Besides, what is your definition of "creating technology"? Amazon Web Services was born though expanding the current Amazon.com website to make it easily scalable to keep up with customer demand. The techniques developed is what gave us AWS. They took what you would consider "managing IT" and created a new product from it.
eta: I bet you're one of those assholes who thinks the IT department needs to fix the broken microwave in the break room. God forbid you don't eat your breakfast hot pocket.

My father-in-law is an engineer and doesn’t have a degree.

I get the point he was trying to make, but gah there are such better ways to say it.

I am merely suggesting Bloomberg probably had the traditional small farmer of 75 years ago in mind
So he was wrong

To make it in the Technology advance world you can't skip class...and you can't get a job and learn on the job..

Bloomberg’s truly riled up the farmers. My family and friends that farm are blowing up social media with pro-farmer posts in response. It’s glorious.

OMG that was nearly 3.5 years ago. What are you going to drag up next, his kindergarten yearbook from 1945?
I'll be right back with what the teachers and students said about him. They said "anyone can do a better job than him". "watch him if he ever gets a lot of money", "doesn't play well with other", "don't ever tell him he has a Hitler syndrome"

ah, so that's why college is so expensive

these smart individuals are entrepreneurs, right?...with tremendous vision. They were bored with school...kind of like Rush Limbaugh, he's smart, self educated , didn't go to college, and he changed talk radio in his segment
Gates is probably the smartest tech guy on your list...but these billionaires will be the first to tell you although they get credit for their vision and brand, -a ton of talented, highly educated people helped make it happen.
everybody has a role, everybody has something to contribute
I am not sure what we're arguing about. I thought the point of the thread was discussing whether advancing Technology forward requires more brain power than farming.
I think that's true...

I thought the thread was about whether or not Bloomberg’s statements were accurate. They were not, and he apparently doesn’t understand the difference between intelligence and education. He flatly claimed that farmers and machinists don’t have to think or analyze. That’s laughable. It’s not true of farmers and machinists today and it’s not true of farmers and machinists who lived 200 years ago.

American farmers feed the world. God Bless'em. Let that "imbecile" grow his own food.

I don’t normally get upset with things like this — I just “whatever”. But I’m married to a farmer, a very educated farmer. Who busts his rear and so do his two employees. And so did his dad and grandfather before him.
He’s damn good at what he does — if it’s “so easy” why do some people go bankrupt and we get called to take over their land?
Mike can suck it.

Nerds vs the FFA/4-H crowd....I did not see this coming.
But if I have to choose between a laptop and something to eat...I’m going with food.

Um yeah me too. I married into a farming family — never even gave a thought to where my food came before that. Knew it wasn’t “from the store” but ever thought about the process and the time and money and dependency on the weather.
It’s a crap shoot for sure but someone has to feed Gods people.
