Could you retire someplace where you have no friends or family?

That seems to be the question I am rolling around in my head as I sit here in my 50's.
Love the mountains. Want to live in the mountains. But all my people are in Louisiana. I am looking out of my 38th floor window and I don't see any mountains.
I could probably do it, but my wife would struggle with leaving.

You mean leaving your wife and family and going off on your own?

if life went to complete shite and everyone was gone I would have no problem moving to a foreign country with a low cost-of-living and just enjoying myself
ETA: Leave your wife, she'll get over it

I could 100% be fine living off the grid.

Absolutely.....my grandkids like 1500 miles away bc of a federal law....grandparents are required to live in FL

I could pick some place in Philippines or Thailand to hole up. Plenty of company to be had there. And they're friendly. Bonus is you still have good seafood.

I’m interested in this: getting away from my friends (reprobates) and family (family). Yes.

This is where I will retire, in the Idaho/Utah/Montana area. Wife and I have no kids, most of my family has passed away, wife's family is in Seattle so we'd be moving closer anyway.
Most of my friends are military, so we're spread out all over the country/world already anyway.

This would be my preference. If I had my druthers, I'd retire to a Caribbean beach with warm sands, umbrella drinks and cocoa butter titties. Friends and family can visit as long as they don't stay too long.

Grandkids can move around.
If my parents had done this they would have had to move around a lot.

This is a trick question. No way I will ever be able to retire before I die. Financially speaking

If the area in which I'm living makes me happy, absolutely.
