Coronavirus: Iran denies cover-up after reports of 50 deaths

quote:

The Iranian government has denied trying to cover up the full extent of the coronavirus outbreak after reports suggested the death toll from the disease was more than four times higher than official figures claim.

On Monday, a lawmaker from Qom – a Shia holy city 75 miles (120 km) south of the capital, Tehran, accused Iran’s health minister of lying about the scale of the outbreak.

According to the semi-official Ilna news agency, which is close to reformists, the lawmaker, Ahmad Amirabadi Farahani, said there had been 50 deaths from the coronavirus in Qom alone.

Wuhan all over again?

SK - 833 cases and 8 deaths.
Italy - 226 and 5 deaths.

Japan, HK & SG - 315 cases and 3 deaths.

The WHO briefing this morning (US Time) is a Chinese love fest... Basically saying the World owes China for buying us time in the fight against this virus and that the controls used in China should be deployed worldwide.

I’d like to know what’s going in Iran. Deaths there are a lot higher than even in China. Is it because health care is awful there and this outbreak was allowed to grow or has the virus changed there compared to other areas? So far Iran has exported cases to Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Bahrain, and Canada.

2 weeks ago, based on information from a Wuhan crematorium operator, Wuhan was disposing of approx. 1000 bodies daily.

Are yall still going to push this narrative when the mortality rates in South Korea and Italy end up being the same as the ones being published by the Chinese?

The number of current cases verses number of current deaths is a bad metric in a slow working virus. Most deaths are going to occur 2 to 3 weeks after the sickness gets going. Older people and those with preexisting conditions will die first, but even healthy people are dying from this (multiple docs under 50 have died in China). It will be another month until we know of those 800 cases in SK, how many have died.

Also I don't put much faith in the WHO after watching this play out. They are carrying the water for Beijing, their second largest donor.

How can that even be considered a benchmark? Cruise ships have outbreaks of illness all the time... a quick google

How about the South Korean church?

Or the jails that have near 100% infection

It’s more contagious than the flu per a doctor in the NYT this morning

Good news/bad news:

Good news is that vaccines are already being tested.

Bad news is that it will take 18 months to complete at a minimum.

China mucked this up terribly at the beginning. Putting doctors who raised the warning initially in jail and ignoring it when it could have been more easily contained was a catastrophically bad move by the CCP.

Comrade Slackster, et al disagree. Nothing could be done. What would you do? Cut off China and hurt global economy?

We should all be worrying about the flu.

Keep in mind stress and fatigue weaken the immune system, and we know these doctors are overworked.

It really does seem like some people in here are rooting for this to get worse to justify their initial alarm from a month ago
