Knowing China, it's 10x worse than they're willing to admit. I'm not being dramatic when I say this could be the next Spanish Flu... seems to be highly contagious, and even with a mortality rate of, say, 10%, you're talking about hundreds of millions of people dying if this thing sweeps across the globe.

The city of Wuhan has 11 Million people. Thats 3 million more than NYC. So china just put a city BIGGER than our biggest city on lock down. think about that for a moment.
Also, im starting to read that some of this is based on the local population eating things they shouldnt be eating, like rats and wild wolves. Is that a China gonna China thing or is it a the government is broke so they cant police these things like they usually do kinda thing?

I have mentioned the term 'epizooti' on this board. This is the epizooti. It's a disease contracted from wild animals. It came from a market in Wuhan. It was on Japanese TV on Link TV yesterday.

I was listening to a student from Denmark that is studying there. He said back in November a lot of people were talking of we chat about Pneumonia cases spiking in the city, but he said the pollution is so bad there are always a lot of respiratory issues, now most think the govt knew back then they had a problem with an undiscovered virus.

That Virus could care less about Humans or Politics; once this thing gets loosed into the public...well...many have predicted the logical progression.
Trump had better get in, or God forbid if it jumps into our population, the low life Dems will hang it around his neck.

I assume our satellites can identify pyres or mass excavations, should it come to that.
At what point does a major city resort to those methods?
11,000,000 x .33 x .1 is 363,000 victims over say four months is 22,000 a week.

yep, agreed, must be damn near resident evil level with zombies in the streets to start announcing quarantined cities

In other news out of China, a poll of Hong Kong protesters says 90% are planning to move to Wuhan soon.

but how bad can it get really? I can see this potentially being an issue in bigger cities.
"Spanish flu" which started in KS was only that bad because of WWI and how close all those folks interacted at the time. That was also over 100 years ago. Plus, the lack of media coverage really helped exacerbate that problem.
We arent exactly eating wolf pups and civets over here....

The government is broke because China is out of pork. Pork is the staple source of protein in most of China. They produce a lot of it, but also rely some on imports, especially for soybeans. A massive disease outbreak killed off half their hogs and the trade war with the U.S. cut them off from imports. The price of food more than doubled in the cities. What forced China to the negotiating table is that people in the provinces are starving because the country is running out of meat.
If I had to guess, what is happening in Wuhan is due to eating infected animals or resorting to unclean animals due to the shortages. The bad meat is making people very sick.

So, you think a disease spread more easily in 1917 than it will now... when over half of the world's population lives in an urban area?

That's why it all depends on the transmission... how it's spread and how contagious it is... Spanish Flu was extremely contagious, and I think the mortality rate was about 15%?
A comparable pandemic could EASILY occur, even with our advanced, modern medicine.

I had this thought as well. Food shortages would happen pretty quickly in a place with 11 million hungry mouths. also makes you wonder what is actually going to happen when the quarantine starts really getting enforced.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence I just happened to finish Behold a Pale(Livid) Horse two days ago.
