Any chance the Big 12 reconsiders expansion? How long will AAC stay with 11 teams?

The Big 12 needs to consider adding some teams to build their strength of schedule. Memphis has a large fan base and would probably be in the upper half of the Big 12 conference most years. Laugh if you want, but I think Notre Dame could be another possibility. It Texas can have its own network, why not let ND have their own television contract? Seems like that should be doable for the Big 12.

In regards to the AAC, beginning in 2020 they will not have UConn. Adding a team boils down to revenue, but they need to consider the possibility of the Big 12 looking at expansion and plan ahead. UAB seems to be the best choice as an AAC candidate. Basketball team is not a stranger to the tournament and home football games typically average at or near the top attendance numbers for CUSA. New stadium in 2021 and lots of money being made invested in athletics add to their strengths.

Notre Dame is not joining the Big XII.

True that, but why does ND get to remain conferenceless? I'm assuming they get a pass b/c of their history and playing on NBC every freaking Saturday.

I think the AAC would rather Wichita State restart their football program than add anyone else right now.

Until the Athletic Directors / Presidents / Chancellors of teams that regularly schedule Notre Dame collectively decide that forcing them to join a conference (by no longer scheduling them) is more important than the revenue generated by scheduling them, Notre Dame will remain independent.

They'd be stupid not too.

ND gets away with it through a few things, including the NBC contract, the current playoff / New Years Six contract giving them preferential treatment if they are on the list, and their half-assed affiliation with the ACC.

The NBC contract gives them money, the playoff contract gives them access to the big money bowls, and the ACC affiliation gives them a place for their non-football sports and access to lower bowls IIRC.

If NBC drops their football contact and/or the program has a significant down period and no longer gets preferential treatment for the playoffs and the New Year’s Six games, they would join a conference. And the conference as of this second is the ACC, though they had a Big East affiliation before the last set of realignment.

First thing the XII needs to do is get that CBS 230p contract, that would bring more exposure for schools other than UT and OU for better recruiting throughout the rest of the conference. Improve the conference as is, then worry about adding more.

LA Tech would be a better option to join the Big 12 rather than Notre Dame.

This makes football sense. But it doesn't make financial sense for the current members of the Big 12 which is why they will not expand. The current members other Big 12 are not going to have their revenue reduced because of strength of schedule. These decision are based on $$$$ first and foremost.

LOL.
When will people learn that this shite is all about the money? The conversation starts and stops with money. Until that becomes a problem, the powers to be couldn't care less.

I have a soft spot for Colorado State, so would love for them to get into the Big XII.

Big 12 Should invite Colorado state and BYU to get to 12 and change the name to SWC. Than rebrand the Longhorn channel as the swc network.

this. If the sec leaves that spot no other conference has enough quality games to do it justice
