Exactly. Plan in advance. Get up early. Strategically take breaks. Close the park down at night. It can be great affordable fun.

I have some friends like this who go 4-5x a year. They stay at Ft. Wildnerness in their camper and have a season pass so it isn’t super expensive for them.

After taking my kids this past fall, there is not a doubt in my mind I will be taking them back. If you look at it in the money you are going to spend, don’t go because it won’t be worth it. IF you are going to give your kids a magical experience, absolutely go and do it right.

Hell, memories I never thought I had came flooding back to me the second I walked down Main St. The whole thing was almost as amazing for me as it was for the kids.

Also, screw those stupid Most Expensive Day Ever shirts. I liked the guys wearing the Most Amazing Day Ever shirt. Go with the right attitude and intention of making it amazing for your kids and it will truly be magical.

Why do you care so much what other adults spend their money on?

I don't get why people spends a frick ton of money every year fishing and hunting, but I don't start threads to bitch about it

Because this is a website dedicated to having discussions and this is a discussion.

But do we have to have this exact same discussion every other month or two?

Sure, I'd like to see some diversity of topic too but some topics can't be discussed enough. I mean, Disney is for kids. Why are there so many immature adult in society, is what I would ask.

My favorite part about getting dragged to Disney World is eavesdropping on all the Brazilians in the line who think they are having a private conversation because they don't realize I'm a lusophone.

I know these kinda people. An almost 40 year old woman I know is obsessed with the place. When she isn’t planning the next trip for her husband and daughter, she will plan other people’s trips. She’s also known for writing hot checks around town so it’s not like they have the income to blow.

Disney isn’t my thing but I know people that love it to the point of obsession.

The saddest thing I see is the divorced couple who fight over the kids and one of them inevitably starts taking the kids to disney to make the kids favor them. I know 2 families like this and it’s shameful.

The few times I’ve been with my little kids, I felt like I needed a vacation when I got back.

My 3 year old has been 3 times already. We are DVC members and annual pass holders.

My wife has a friend that is obsessed with Disney. Her and her husband go once or twice a year. They save up their money each year so they can go. I can't knock them too much because my wife and I are annual passholders at Universal. We live in the Orlando area now, so we'll be visiting Disney soon enough.

Their is a secret to this you know...

I knew 3. Two of the "secret" entrances to park now have big red barriers put in place. The other is to park at Disney Springs and catch a bus in to whatever park you want.

She went in the front and paid so she could make the easy escape later.

My wife loves the place and we go about once every 4 years and the cost is not as much IMHO as others make it out to be.

Yes, it is.

We typically do the beach (wow so much to do), we'e done the mountains, we've done DC and NYC and as stated cruises. IMHO Disney is the best bang for you buck.

To each his own, but I can't get agree with this part at all....especially compared to the other things you've listed.

When did this obsession with Disney begin?

the obsession was on a much lower scale until about 10 years ago (and it's ramped up exponentially in the past 5) when nostalgia became one of the biggest consumables in our economy. millenials (of which i am a part, mind you) are the first generation to have their childhood readily accessible for basically all of their lives. we grew up in a world where everyone had cable TV and then the internet came around as a delivery device for nostalgia. once streaming hit, this exploded even moreso.

Disney is tailor-made for people who value nostalgia

Disney World has become a multi-faceted symbol of both nostalgia and fandom, which has made DW, as a product, very valuable for nostalgia-obsessed consumers. sprinkle in social media an it's borderline obsessive at this point

like i said in the "Christmas causing stress" thread. the exact same thing has overtaken Christmas, completely ruining it
