It is possible to do Disney and not spend a fortune. If you stay off site and bring your own food, you’ll save a ton of money off the bat.
We stayed on site when we went with the kids last time. We will probably go again in a few years and stay off site. You can get a two bedroom suite in a nice hotel for about 50% of what it costs to stay on site.

To each their own. We have never been. But we are more of a outdoor type family. Took all three kids to the mounatains for their senior trips. Their choice. My wife and I would rather spend 4-5k on being in the mountains. But my best friend and his family of four are quickly becoming part of "The Cult". I give him shite about it all the time. He is a Disney Dad. knowing him like I do. I never would have guessed it.

baby Yoda is the next level of marketing. Disney sought out a meme and built a show around it
so you take all the other stuff and are now sprinkling in internet culture to go with it
and you have to keep consuming to keep up or else you are now the outsider/weirdo

Yeah, that's a type of humor that just never works for me.
"My kid and my money go to Vanderbilt." Har-dee har har har. Guess what, schmuck? Life costs money. Not much humor in pointing that out.

It's already far too late for that

Like 40 year olds getting all worked up over the latest comic book movies?

oh yeah
my gf doesn't understand it. like my best friend is having a wedding soon and i'm in it, along with alot of friends that date back to middle school. and there are little things that come up that are just funny from that insider perspective
like at the rehearsal dinner she said i needed a tie. i told her i probably didn't but would bring one. she was like "it says cocktail attire" and i was like "yeah but i'm [insert friend group nickname, which is my last name]"...she gives a puzzled look, so i go "they understand i do what i want, especially in terms of dress". it doesn't even register for her
i'm not the biggest non-conformist in the world or anything (i am pro-conformity to an extent, but just typically won't do things if they don't make sense to me and/or are stupid), but when people don't expect you to do certain things (especially when it's just doing certain things at an expected, elevated level), it's extremely liberating

eh, i don't think a lot of that is nostalgia
the stories are relatively new (or revised versions of old stories) and lots of the properties were B/C properties not really big with nostalgia pre-Marvel Studios. the biggest new properties from the Marvel universe are GOTG and Black Panther. nobody has nostalgia for those 2 properties
even Iron Man, the centerpiece of the MCU, was a B/C character that wasn't really nostalgia-producing

I know people that go every year, one with a Disney "timeshare". I gave my 7yo a Disney trip for his big Christmas present this year, his first. I haven't been since I was a kid, 25 years ago. I've been to a couple other continents, and to most of the major destinations in the US, and Disney is by far the most expensive place I've had to try and book a vacation for. I don't see why people would want to go there every year when there are so many other places to see. I could spend 10 nights in Europe with the flight included for the amount that you spend on a 5-day Disney trip. It's completely ridiculous, but they're booked up all year. It's crazy man. The people that go without kids must be sick or something. You couldn't drag me there if it wasn't for wanting to make my kid happy with it this one time.

Before we lived in Florida we would go to Disney for a week or two a year. I quickly learned a few things to make it more affordable and fun.
- rent a house on AirBnB and you get a lot more for a lot less
- eat off property as much as possible
- go first thing in the morning until around noon. Spend the afternoon swimming, resting etc and go back around 7:00 in the evening
- don’t book fast passes for first thing in the morning as most of the lines don’t start getting long until around 10:30 or 11:00
- do not try to do everything in one visit. It is virtually impossible and will make you miserable
- do not visit Disney around any holiday or the month of July
- stay hydrated, cups of water are free everywhere
- if you have kids do things like Wilderness Explorers, dance parties, shows etc. you will be surprised how much fun you will have
- turn off your phone. I don’t really like Disney a whole lot but it is a great time for me to spend time with the family without distractions like electronics.

I went to Disney parks four times in five years during the late-90s/early 2000s (three of them school-related trips) as a teenager, and while enjoyable, don't plan on going back anytime soon. Would rather spend that kind of money on a real trip.

We just like Disney. You either love the place or hate it. BTW, we had Annual Passes and during that time we took 5 trips.

If you don’t get it, you probably don’t care much about your own family IMO.
It’s more expensive than going to the beach, but that doesn’t mean I can’t go to the beach too. Which me and my wife do when we want a weekend to relax.
Your enjoyment of the Disney experience is directly proportional to the attitude you take with you there.
If you focus on the crowd instead of your family, you won’t enjoy it.
If you are annoyed at the lines you should be annoyed at yourself for not doing your fast passes right.
You get free passes to mini-golf. Use them, it’s fun. I don’t think you’re beating my 58 on the Fairways course though.
If you don’t enjoy the place, frankly you’re just doing it wrong, and because it is expensive you’ll compound your misery.
Find someone like me that knows the place and how to navigate it. Listen to them about how to approach it, and you’ll soon discover that just a little planning will make a world of difference and on the way home you’ll be thinking about how to do it better next time.

This was originally about people who go to Disney over and over again- not people who go once or twice and then say something like, "you know, I've always wanted to go to Yellowstone, or maybe Spain.
Rather, OP was asking about people who decide dozens of times that the entire rest of the world couldn't possibly be better than a cartoon mouse-themed amusement park in Orlando.
I would like to go to Disney once or twice, but the die-hards kind of ruin it.
"You've gotta have the app." "Park in the Dumbo Garage, man, best-kept secret there." "Nobody's used Goofypass since 2015, man. It's all about accumulating DonaldDucats now."
One could visit Israel with less trouble. It is almost cult-like.
