Yes, and it seems to be handled case by case making an exec order unnecessary and clearly pandering. But “trump” so it’s the most fricking awesome thing ever!!!
LOL @ your TDS.
Obama actually allowed the same thing.
And, of course. I've supporter this idea for 30+ years. So, yeah. 3 decades ago, I already knew Trump would be for it so, I had to because I'm a Trumpkin!!!
You people are so fricking bot-ish it isn't even funny.

I don’t know why people are mad about this. There may be one or two players from the service academies who would get drafted each year.
Correct
I wonder if this might open up an avenue for elite high school athletes to consider these academies as an option though?

I'd just like to point out to all of our TDS folks.
No one from an Academy who has ended up pro material showed up to college thinking they were going to be.
They were all basically the equivalent of a guy like Jacob Hester. Dudes who were decent athletes coming out that managed to develop into potential pro-athletes in a manner no one predicted when they were 18.
Academies are never going to be a destination for 4 and 5 star highly recruited kids. But, there will always be those dudes who just end up late bloomers or, for some other reason are completely overlooked when they're 18.
And, frankly, as someone who used to support Army Recruiting command...…….a lot of you people in this thread don't understand that USAREC is as much about marketing the Army as a whole as it is about recruiting individual kids to the Army.
I guarantee you the Army paid more for this than they pay for probably ALL of this year's football team's education. And, ONE kid from Army making the NFL would still be worth more in terms of marketing.

1)You still have to fully qualify academically.
2)You still are expected to incur a service obligation even if deferred
3)Let's face it, not even all 5 star players make the pros...…..which means that signing up for a Service Academy if you have no desire to serve whatsoever would probably be pretty unwise.

Thank goodness Trump came through for them with a few squirts of oil by this outrageous act though, they were just about to freeze up. It's more famine than feast these days....I see much rust in their future.

It’s amazing to see these sky screamers pretend to be upset by this. Sad sacks of shite.

The taxes from an NFL salary are probably worth more than an education lol.
Plus the average NFL career is 3 years. You could always go back to active duty afterward.
Actually, they have to.
"President Donald Trump used his appearance at the annual Army-Navy football game to pitch to the players an administration policy change that clears the way for athletes at the nation's military academies to play professional sports after they graduate and delay their active-duty service."
"A memo signed in November by Defense Secretary Mark Esper spelled out the new guidelines. It said the athletes must get approval from the Pentagon chief, and it requires them to eventually fulfill their military obligation or repay the costs of their education"
Lots of folks with sand in their vaginas who apparently didn't bother to read the EO.

So they going to payback the American taxpayer for that free education?
If you had bothered to actually read what was signed, perhaps you wouldn't have asked such a stupid fricking question.
But since you were either too lazy or too stupid to read, the answer is yes. They have to pay back the cost if they never go back and fulfill their commitment.

Why all the curse words, downvotes and overall venom from our military members?
Did anyone teach you that you should be more respectful to your bosses?

But why would anyone conversely denounce merely pushing back the service timeframe?
Just a guess, but I'm going with majority of active service members who would even follow this, football fans and otherwise, fellow branch members, former teammates, etc etc, majority of them proactively root on those service members for whom all the stars align in terms of ability to play in NFL.

See David Robinson's career post-USNA for how this works.
Robinson stayed all four years. Plus when he first entered he was under the maximum height requirement, but then grew while at Annapolis. So they let him out after only two years since there aren't that many positions that a 7'1" midshipman can fill.

I'd like to point out in this thread also that you can actually request early departure from a service obligation if you win the friggin lottery and with pretty rare exception, you'll receive your waiver.
Too many people up in here acting like the world is gonna fall about if what, maybe 20 guys a decade get to go pro and delay their service? Sheesh.
And, basically NO ONE is contemplating the reality that the military can absolutely get benefit from having someone who ends up a successful pro.
As I pointed out earlier. The friggin Army spend TONS of money to sponsor a fricking car in NASCAR for Chrissakes. And, make no mistake, having an NFL starter beats having your name plastered on a fricking car.

this means that the service academies have a chance to become relevant again

We have been assured vulgarly throughout this thread that this will not be the case.

It’s fine. But I expect that many of these guys will pull a David Robinson and serve anyway.
