They used to do some bomb arse smoked wings. Bbq nachos were good too.

Used to drink at that places religiously in school bc of the tv in the barroom and the pbr/miller highlife and apps happy hour deal.

I see what you’re saying from a gourmet’s standpoint. But for a college campus, sure it’s serviceable/decent.

The Texas kids you mentioned in your previous post probably aren't finding Voodoo BBQ to be decent compared to what they're accustomed to.

Opening restaurant is rarely a good idea. It’s a completely over saturated market.

Students are broke

A lot of Voodoos closed.

I used to like Podnuh's but heard they closed too.

There's several still open in BR. I haven't eaten there in years though.

Several? Which other ones are still open aside from Sherwood?

I think the one on Florida near Lobdell is still open. At least it was last time I drove by there.

I don't know how that location lasted as long as it did.

Parking was a huge issue there and they aren’t close enough to walk for almost anyone

Also too expensive for college kids

Too expensive for the quality. Their Mojo BBQ sauce was very good. Really the best thing on the menu was the burger which is not a great sign at a BBQ restaurant. The space was also way too big for them. I only saw people sitting at tables a few times, everyone else was at the bar.

Decent, nothing spectacular. Eaten there once and it nowhere compares to the BBQ in Texas.

Now Big Jakes needs to open a Baton Rouge location and STAY OPEN for dinner. HE WOULD MAKE A KILLING.

Damn I wish I would have known. I would have swung by Saturday for one last pint.

When I was a student I lived across the street from there, and probably drank at least 500 $1 PBR's over the years.

Food was absolute trash, but those dollar PBR's were perfect.

nobody in this thread said that.
maybe if they'd called the place "voodoo corn pudding" they'd have been successful

Voodoo was bad and I'm surprised that location stayed open longer than the Perkins Rowe locale. Good BBQ in BR? BRQ is really good but pricy, and Sonny's is fantastic but waaay out of the way.

Someone needs to explain to me why a city the size of Baton Rouge can’t support a decent BBQ restaurant
I think the problem is bigger than BBQ. There are very few businesses opening in Baton Rouge and many more closing for good.

For me, the best going right now is Jims Smokehouse in Baker. Best smoked chicken (without sauce) I've had. Ribs are really good. Obviously not close to LSU, but I drive past all the other places mentioned to get to Jims.

it's tough out there in the mean streets of BR for a restaurateur. there's a national chain on every corner. most people think they can cook better food at home. the dining scene completely shuts down on LSU home saturdays (unless its a sports bar). the primary complaints against more adventurous places are portion size and price. there are very few places with a robust lunch and dinner business...its usually one or the other

then the dejected restaurant owner drives home, and sees a standing room only parking lot at golden corral...
