I blame trial lawyers for making Louisiana an unfriendly place for business.

you can blame "trial lawyers" for all the auto insurance rate increases you want

but our "trial lawyers" aren't good enough to scare off major businesses

plus Foster already addressed Worker's Comp 20 years ago, so THAT isn't an argument, either

10 years??? Try 50 or 100. The only things that kept la relevant were the river and o&g...both are fading...the one constant was a shitty, corrupt government and, honestly, a really shitty culture that prioritized festivals and getting drunk (aka culture).

100% agree. But I think 10-15 years ago there was some level of hope. Now, especially with that election, LA becomes a 20+ year fix, therefore it will never get done.

Please elaborate

there is a large "we have culture!" argument around LA, which really amplifies when talking about Nola

that "culture" largely is just excess drinking

there is a large overlap with the "there is nothing to do" argument people bring up about not living in cities (this is not LA-centric), which often comes down to finding socially-acceptable ways to get trashed. people may pretend that they're going to go to museums, but it doesn't happen when the rubber meets the road

Gotta give Rispone credit on one thing. He made the term “trial lawyer” a mainstream insult lol.

Oh yeah, auto insurance premiums.

Gordon and Morris are happy right now for sure though.

Definitely. Whenever people up here go to New Orleans, it’s mainly because of the Mardi Gras/drinking culture. People aren’t flying down there to check out museums. A swamp tour may be the only major sober thing they do. If prohibition was still a thing, Louisiana would be fricked even more

Lots of good Americans still there but yes, sh-thole, USA has arrived. Expect more and more "Gone to Texas" activity as the reality of leaving or not being safe anyplace and living in a cleaned up version of Haiti are the choices.

Another weird post. Actually the museums do pretty good business in New Orleans. The port is the 7th largest and the culture of New Orleans is music and great food along with the creole / Spanish/ French history. It’s as busy as it’s ever been. Ride down magazine through the warehouse district and the quarter in a Friday night and you’ll see thousands of people enjoying themselves. New Orleans is the engine of Louisiana. The problem is other areas with no action whatsoever Add to it the most explosive upper end housing construction in 60 years.

Isn't your legislature still not democrat?

not sure what the problem is other than putting up with dumbasses gloating

You don't actually want the government to do anything. Of course, if your Republicans are like everybody else's they suck and will cave and pass horrid shite to "reach across the aisle".

"Reaching across the aisle" always seems to be a one-way proposition.

if Nola is our "engine" then we've been broken down and dying on the side of the road since Katrina

how many major businesses has Nola lost since 2005?

"Democrat" and "Republican" are weird in LA

many (most?) Republicans in LA are major RINOs who support the entitlement state

Lower level topics like “tort reform”? WTF?? If you’re ok paying more than quadruple the national average for car insurance then you’re mentally ill.

If I had to guess, lower corporate taxes and incentives for companies that will invest in the economy.
