That measure factors in excise taxes the one I linked did not. La did increase the cigarette excise tax under JBE, which only taxes people who smoke .under JBE we went from having 2nd lowest cigarette tax to now we are around 30th, so if u smoke ur tax burden did go up more than mine did

Taxes are taxes. It's still accurate that we are a middle of the road taxed state that's ranked 49th or 50th in most quality of life measures. What are we getting for our money?

I’ll admit it. I’m taking this election hard. I just love my state. I love being near family and getting to experience LSU sports anytime I want. I love the food and culture. I just find it sad that the people here don’t want to be better or change things. Most posts of people who voted for JBE are saying the state was screwed before had got elected and it’s always going to be screwed and they are just accepting of letting him have 4 more years of failure rather than trying something new. I always think the “i’m moving” talk is hyperbole even though we’ve lost 75,000 people during this administration...but i get it. I’m too old and established to pick up and leave now but I can’t with a good conscience recommend anyone under 50 stay and “make it better”. Get the hell out while you can.

Do you think that LA could invest in renewable energy as oil declines to eventually have that as an economic driver to stay afloat? As renewable sector grows LA could hop on board early.

Yes, LA should build windmills so that when a Hurricane hits, LA will make bank.

No I don’t smoke never have and never will , why should I subsidize big tobacco and make there product more profitable given the significant Increase in health care cost smokers impose on the economy, smoking is a voluntary tax that smokers choose to pay by virtue of smoking , it has no relevance on my tax burden or majority of LA folks who do not smoke , JBE can raise cigarette taxes to infinity and will not bother me one bit.

I am happily married and north of 50 but if I were single and met a woman who smoked, she could have a golden arse and I would tell her get lost , do not even want to sit next to u , that is how much I do not like being around Smokers

But Trump did not change the expansion that Obama put in during 2013. I mean he could have rolled it back and still can.

have you ever thought that "the culture" is why people don't want to change things?

I've already started talking with my daughter about leaving Louisiana when she's done with college. It's sad but I want what's best for her.

The Medicaid expansion was part of Obama care , do we agree on this basic fact?

Trump has been trying to undue most of Obama care and I think by not challenging a state case against it let some parts get effectively neutered

however he has never tried to undue the portions that relate to Medicaid expansion best I can tell

Even if he did - part of it would have been implemented anyway simply due to the scope and timeframes of the changes to the system. Some of these changes take years to implement and reverse from a dev/policy state perspective

No health care cost savings will outpace the lost revenue

Actually Trump has put some caps on the Medicaid expansion see recent Medicaid expansion in Utah, most red state in union perhaps where Trump capped the expansion

It's also worth mentioning healthcare will boom all over the country. This is not unique or special to Louisiana.

Caps are way way easier to implement than reversals

there is a large overlap with the "there is nothing to do" argument people bring up about not living in cities (this is not LA-centric), which often comes down to finding socially-acceptable ways to get trashed

I applaud you for noting this. It's sad that the continuing urban/rural divide is actually tied to hedonism. It's not sustainable. Younger people are going to have to gain a measure of self-discipline and retake rural areas and raise families.

You could say the Democrats have made this a tough row to hoe by destroying public schools, but they've destroyed urban public schools, too.

And the fact that your state has 30 percent of its population on Medicaid is a very sobering stat (no pun intended). Anyone who thinks this is sustainable has their judgment clouded by the aforementioned hedonistic lifestyles they tend to embrace.

Correct it is hard to undue federal programs once they are implemented , capping them and auditing them and mAking sure the money is spent effectively is best option so Trump did cap the expansion

That's cute that you think we'd just shrink government revenue if expenses decreased

There's no voter fraud.

We all know that’s not true as it is the entire reason the Council on Aging exists, but I don’t think voter fraud was substantial to swing this election.
