For those without pre check, how long are the wait times usually?
If I had to guess, at 6:00am it was 30min or so
Posted on 11/12/19 at 9:22 am to LSUFanHouston
All of the average wait times are under 30 minutes. That does not seem to match the complaints in this thread.

Who is reporting this average?

awesome site...but how accurate?

Supposedly it grabs data from the My TSA app system, which allows users to self-report times.

I dropped a friend off yesterday afternoon nearly two hours early. She texted me 10 mins later and said: 'I'm through security and at my gate. I guess we didn't need to come this early after all."
The only thing that stood out to me -- other than the lack of a direct access road -- was that the Departure drop off area seems small and crowded. Cars were stacked two deep letting people out and there seems to be no room for expansion. I was pretty shocked by how choked down everything seemed there.

I do think people are overreacting because they want things to be bad, and it has mostly been fine.
There are issues. The traffic needs to have a short term patch until the long term solution can get done. The Uber/Lyft system needs to be addressed.
But for the most part, it has been fine.
I think people are forgetting what a shitshow the old MSY could be at times.
I've had ridiculously long lines at security there plenty of times, and the pickup at the "underground" road by baggage claim was often a clusterfrick of epic proportions.

Let's remind people.
1) Many times, there was NO parking available on site.
2) Traffic backups from the terminal would often reach the corner of the access road / airline hwy
3) Ticket counter lines would reach outside the entry doors
4) TSA checkpoint lines at Concourse B would back up into the ticketing lobby
Of course, all of these were at peak times - same as the current problems are at peak times - and would result in people missing flights
5) An entire concourse at 5 am would have NOTHING open - no stores, no restaurants, etc

This was awful, especially with Soutwest. I haven't seen any reports of how it's going at the new place. I'm hoping it's much improved, but it seemed more like a personnel issue at the old place than anything.

Concourse B backing up like that happened to me plenty of times.
I have several times waited 30+ minutes for a bag.
The food options were such a damn joke. One time my wife ordered a ceasar salad from one of the vendors, and it came out. It was 3 full leaves of romaine, completely uncut and just placed on the plate, with a ramekin of dressing, and a ramekin of croutons and cheese on the side. It was the most pathetic things I've ever seen.
Its the only time my wife has ever complained to management about anything.
I guess we were just lucky something was open.

That, combined with lack of an express bag drop, which the new terminal supposedly has

I fly out/in of MSY weekly. The old airport passenger logistics were fine, but the "stuff" inside was a huge pile of dung. The new terminal is beautiful, and I hope the small things I noticed when I flew out of it Monday will get worked out. The biggest issue I noticed was cleanliness of the bathrooms, and of course, 2 out of the 3 automatic soap dispensers that I ran my hand under did not work.
Also, Monday had a high of what, 75f? The massive glass panels that face the tarmac from the TSA checkpoint were already getting the walkway warm near the glass (around 11:30AM. The Mondo restaurant which is right off the walkway felt fine, but I can't imagine that walkway during a 95-100f day.

Sitting in it now. Flew in last Friday no issues getting a shuttle to the old terminal. This morning no traffic and right into parking and through security in a breeze.
Loved the old delta terminal because it was so easy to access but so far so good in the new terminal for me. Hopefully it stays that way and improves for everyone.

It def feels like luck of the draw right now. I feel like the high wait times are coming in the evenings at around rush hour.

BHM currently has one new terminal building with three new concourses, which opened on March 13, 2013 (Concourses A, B) and on August 14, 2014 (Concourse C).
Per wiki.....
In Denver southwest asked/needed more gates..... Denver then added gates.
So new MSY is being designed and southwest asks for certain things nothing crazy.... just things to make it better for all. They get nothing.

No you have proven your vast knowledge of how airports work. Keep it up i have nothing major planned and you are quite the entertainment.

When will the new terminal be a significant improvement over the old for the flying, tax paying public??
We have read several posters excuses for the new terminal and most like Houston are simply making excuses as to why it is not as good yet as the old terminal.
Will it ever be significantly better for the flying public?

Flew through it this last weekend with no issues. 10 minute security line and I got a cab in 3 minutes.
This place is faaaaaaar nicer than that old shithole. The old MSY made me despise having to fly in to NOLA.
