Just went through dropped my bag at the counter and made it through pre-check in ten minutes from getting out the car. Regular security line looked like ten or fifteen minutes. Much better than expected. Crossing my fingers my bag makes it to the plane.

I’ve already heard a couple bar tenders say they’re understaffed and being asked to work doubles. Restaurants all seem full, same with the bar.

Lot of mixed messages in this thread.

Thanks for all the people sharing your experiences. Fly out in a few weeks. Bought my tickets earlier this year and was hoping all this would be worked out by now. Should have expected the delays.

Just got here. It took a little longer to get through pre-check than normal. It was about 30 minutes. Regular looked at least 45 to an hour. I guess I was spoiled with being isolated in concourse B in the old airport. This place is fricking packed.

That’s because like 2% of SW flyers fly frequently enough to benefit from precheck.

Lines were routinely long at C & D depending on the time of day...

The more people talk about their experiences. The more it appears to be shared concourse issues and the inability to predict demand. That’ll work itself out in due time.

The SWA regional manager said that this was the first time in his experience that an airport met next to zero of what was asked.

Deltas said something similar.

How much experience do those two guys have in opening new airport terminals? Considering how rare it is.

Look... I have no doubt that a lot of this at the end was "rushed" but here we are. I'm sure everyone is working to try to get the people issues figured out.

These two posts are 40 min apart from the same airport. Is it really that variable from minute to minute, or do we have some biases kicking in (on either/both sides)

If the local media wanted to be any help at all, they would be in constant contact with the TSA asking questions about all of this, and what their immediate plans are to fix it.

If the staffing was kept the same, this shouldn't be happening, absent other issues such as changes in procedures or not having enough functional equipment.

I can kind of understand the issues with the cabs and taxis because the process is new and different, even the bars and restaurants, you have a lot more options than before which requires more employees. But the TSA delays are really puzzling to me.

More than you do. Southwest just added gates in Denver not to long ago. I think Birmingham had a renovation not long ago either. When these people tell me things like that i tend to believe them....more than you who obviously has zero idea on the topic.

My ShackBurger has officially taken longer than airport security... going on ten minutes. Luckily I’m here early and my inbound plane is late.

New MSY Terminal on opposite side of airfield in new constructed building.

You don't think they might be pushing an agenda?

They were opening up pre-check lines as I was going through. It was down to one and when I got to the front it went to three.

I know the new airport in NOLA just opened so Im really hoping the long security lines and traffic in and out is alleviated in the coming weeks. If it's like that on a normal weekday what will events be like? ??
Beautiful airport but seems less functional than old one? ?????

I think this is giving Mercedes-Benz a little too much credit.

So you think that whatever the demolition cost would be, you could fully renovate the terminal for that same expense, for SWA to use?

Uhh since I said give SWA a concourse and I know something of construction, yes I say let SWA do what THEY want to do with whichever concourse they want and move them back to the old terminal. I never said renovate the entire terminal ALTHOUGH that would have been hundreds of millions cheaper than this boondoggle.

Demolition is not cheap.

Look your most recent government largesse is at least now a failure. No benefit over the old terminal. Accept it and move on.

My film tax credit threads are spot on and financial correct. I can hold my own on any financial accounting topic you want to start. You must be a governmental accountant.

A government school and film industry welfare advocate wanting to tell us about how great the new boondoggle terminal is.

I don’t understand why they would have difficulty predicting demand. Don’t they have access to the # of passengers who will need to pass through security? This is an undergrad level logistics problem.

At the security checkpoint it shouldn’t be that hard...but it will still fluctuate with flight schedules.

I was speaking more to the restaurant issues.
