Tough love here: sell the damn house. You bought too much house for your present income, and now you’re unhappy with your pay cause you’re spending too much on that mortgage. You know that an advanced degree or training in a new field will boost your income, but you say it’s not an option because you’ve got to pay that mortgage. See the theme here?
You’ve decided to pin your frustrations on your poli sci degree, when the problem is that you’re in a dead end job by choice. You choose to go there everyday. Choose to do something else. You could land a job teaching and get an alternative certification leading to an MA/MEd in 24 months....but NOOO, you’ve got that big fat mortgage. The poli sci degree and mortgage are excuses that allow you to feel frustrated and give you permission not to do anything about it.
What have you done/are you doing, right now, to improve your skill set? What’s your side hustle? Why are you worth $100k to an employer? Get off your couch in your too expensive house and do SOMEthing—learn to code, become a youth sports official, teach piano or guitar, do small job home repairs, study to be building inspector or real estate appraiser....
In short, do something with your free time that makes you more marketable. I like the appraiser/inspector angles, personally. They’re related to your construction world experience and you can work your contacts in that arena.

A bachelor's? What's he doing with a BA/BS in psych to pull in $200k?
When it comes to what you earn, your degree barely matters. It’s your talent relative to your industry that drives income.

You can easily make $50K at an entry level sales job. Payroll and copiers are where a lot of people start. Dont just apply online, walk in and ask to speak to the manager. Get some sales experience under your belt and a whole new world of possibilities will open for you.

quote:My buddy started with copiers in college. His GF got pregnant and he quit school. With his gift of gab he got into radio ad sales. He eventually got his degrees while working and has been a senior VP with a radio conglomerate for many years and has lived and worked in the biggest markets, 7 figure house in MIA, big boats and put 4 kids through college. One of my favorite success stories he made himself valuable and had great drive.

You could be a project manager within an IT organization, if you spent a couple of years learning on the side.
Learn agile, scrum, etc. Work as a project manager on product development or web operations or similar team. Bonus: maybe find a remote position.

It sounds like you are essentially in an operations role?
It should not be difficult at all to go on Linkedin, Indeed etc and find thousands of operations job postings.
Don't limit yourself to just production plants / industrial. You can certainly start there but if you have shown you can operate something and manage people the job fields are limitless.

OP, what are your skills? Honestly, it’s not THAT difficult to make $100K, especially if you have any analytical capability. Why not start as an analyst in some field and work your way up?

Mortgage is $1400?
Guessing you financed $300k for 30 years? On a $50k salary?
Don’t know if it will enable you to get a better job, but you need to sell that place yesterday. That you refuse to consider getting rid of it sounds like you’re just not hungry enough for a comfortable financial situation yet.

1400 is everything included. I have been owning it for about a year and it appraised for 70k more than I built it for.
