Bingo, he is articulate enough that if he is willing to sweat a bit he would be laughing at 100 grand shortly.

Such a narrow view of how to make $100K. There are so many paths to that kind of income especially white collar roles.

Zero realism on this board.

There are paths. They aren’t easy.

If someone has analytical skills then the pathways are much more straightforward.

If someone sucks at math, then the options narrow dramatically.

Even our sales roles have way more analytical requirements than people might realize.

It isn't narrow it is realistic and easily doable by nearly any adult male.

Yes there are many other ways but they are far less certain.

Then why is 100k the top ~86% of all incomes?

Because lots of folks dont want to go that route and 50 grand is better to them than the work, travel, and time required.

It is not what I would suggest for everyone but early 30's with decent health and a unmarketable degree means it is the simplest answer to the question.

It may be accomplished many ways.

Not in my limited experience.

We love to talk about the ease of becoming a plant baw and making 100k+ with your 10th grade education, but becoming an operator at a decent plant involves beating out 200+ other applicants to make it into their yearly "class".

Sure you can find work with a contractor and get in that wat, but a lot of those dudes aren't clearing the "big" money. The demand for operators doesn't come close to the supply of available baws.

There's other ways into the oil field, but I don't know anyone who's finished high school and walked into a job making 6 figures within the first few years without some serious connections. At least in the south.

Also got to factor in the physical toll. A dude working a white collar job could conceivably continue to do that for 35-40+ years easy. Strenuous physical labor and 12 hour night shifts is a young man's game.
