This is very broadly (and IE folks don't need to correct me here) in the field of industrial engineering. Probably irrelevant because you don't like it and don't want to/can't do any more school

Frankly, the more money you make, the more you're expected to do this, either explicitly or implicitly, in virtually any field. I know you're crossing that threshold from young adult to grown arse man, but you're going to have to get comfortable with that.

Jobs that don't require you to manage resources (time, money, manpower) don't pay dick - particularly ones that don't have a high educational bar to entry.

Not necessarily true all the time.

Thank you all for your solid advice. I’m going to keep trying just getting frustrated with the job search.

I wish you luck but remember the line that has gotten me through the tough times of working for myself:
quote:

You want more than you have now? Get out there and EARN it!

Often times you have to take the bull by the horns and just get things done for yourself instead of relying on others. This is a new job market that we've never seen before. Opportunities are endless with the right amount of determination and sometimes imagination. Put technology to work for you so that you work smarter not harder.

Good luck!

Based on this I would guess the easiest way would be to move to California.

Thanks for your sincere advice. You are 100% right. I want everything to happen quickly. But I need to understand it’s a process. I will keep grinding. The alternative is staying here in this dead end job.

I don’t think this is the answer. My brother has a psychology degree and he clocks in about 200k a year.

You likely won't get there in a month or two. It'll take some time.

Yep. Maybe just find a way out of where you are and get something a little bit more diverse to round out the ole resume. You could probably do a new, more exciting job standing on your head for a year or so. If you didn't like it start working on the new plan.

50k isn't exactly a high barrier to entry if you get in touch with the right people. Take a few folks you respect out to lunch and get their advice (and leads). And then take that advice and rock out. But all the advice above about working for yourself, that's the ticket. You'll never have unlimited earnings potential unless you work for yourself. Sales is a close second.

Side note: I'm trying to do an addition to my home and apparently there's soooooo much money to be made in construction and everyone has sooooo much work, I can't get quotes to even come in. It's ridiculous. Maybe managing those people is exactly what you should do even if you don't like babysitting. Hell, you could open a business just putting together quotes for contractors!!!!

A bachelor's? What's he doing with a BA/BS in psych to pull in $200k?

Technically a sales job. You interested in the slightest? Because he would be a great resource. I know it isn't for everybody, but insurance/financial sales have a lot of baws with just a bachelor's (or less, even) doing really well.

Thanks man. Yeah I have a slight interest in it. His agency is out of state so I couldn’t necessarily work for him. The thing that turned me off is he said the first year I would be making about 35k. I would have to sell my house. I really don’t want to sell
My house because I got a steal in an area that is booming.

Plenty captive agencies (State Farm, Allstate, Shelter, etc.) offer agent training/agent aspirant programs to new hires. This is where a new hire learns the ropes while selling products to customers. There are set levels to achieve over time and after a certain point you get placed into their pool of potential agents. If selected, you get your own agency. Or you could go independent and open your own agency selling for multiple carriers.

Either option is a lot of hard work but in different ways. It's not for the weak-minded and those who would rush through things to just get to be able to play golf during the week. You have to work at it and you have to work hard.

If you can’t get into sales you may want to look into working in a plant. Those operators make good $$$
