My 9th grader dislocated his patella on Tuesday and played his best game on Thursday.
He’s a soldier. He snaps to and doesn’t walk on the field. He’s ‘yes sir’ ‘no sir’. He’s the kid who walked the lockerroom after practice making sure his teammates’ didn’t leave anything on the floor so they wouldn’t get punished......he didn’t think anyone was around. His position coach was still there and told me he couldn’t be prouder of a young man.
Old. School.

Got it done to me in JFL, I wouldn't have a problem.
I did have a HS coach who went off on a kid and called him a pussy. Wrong at the moment, but I know he would never do anything to a kid. He was my k-5 pe coach and my sons current k-5 pe coach. I respect him for overall what hes contributed even if he made a mistake.

Just a moms point of view. But.
Football seems to have its own rules. In the beginning, I was shocked at the language used-from both the coaches and the players. Especially at a young age.
I realized after a few years that’s just the way it goes. All players knew it. All coaches knew it.
It’s a dude-centric sport. There are certain life lessons only learned in environments like that.
Can a coach grab a 14yr olds helmet and be an a-hole? Sure.
But a coach can also grab a helmet, use some colorful language to get a point across, and both coach and player can move on.

Depends on a lot of other factors. How big of a screw up was it? Does the coach do this on the regular or was this a one of to really drive home a critical point making my son a better player?
If the coach is just blowing up all over like this and regularly laying hands on kids I would say something and put an end to it. If it was after a critical mistake and the coach was under control (mostly) I would let it go.
Of course I am kind of old school.

If we're talking about just grabbing it, like the Tennessee coach did,that's just an attention getting mechanism coaches have used since helmets have had facemasks.It's not injuring anyone. For God's sakes the kid has a helmet on his head, and pads all over his body, so he can hit people. He should expect to get hit, or grabbed every once and awhile too.
Parents that worry about a coach embarrassing their kid by doing that in public need to understand the coach is probably trying to convey a message that might save the kid 10 times the embarrassment.

Nope. My parents also told every teacher I ever had that they had free reign to beat my arse in any way they saw fit if I acted up. Same with my friends’ parents whenever I would stay the night at their houses.
Everybody takes everything so personally nowadays. If my future son fricks up, I don’t want the coach to pat him on the head and say “it’s ok that you made a horrible throw that led to a run given up in a crucial part of the game or missed your assignment and the guy busted a 70 yard TD run.”
What the frick kinda coaching is that? Sure, I would want my son to get recognized when he does something good, but I also want him to be corrected when he makes a mistake by whoever is in charge of him at that moment in time.
And I can assure you, he won’t take it personally either because that is how he’ll be raised as well.
There are positive consequences to your positive actions and negative consequences to your negative actions. That’s how life works.

A coach did something similar to my kid and I confronted the coach all hot and angry. The coach whooped my arse, broke my nose, my son can’t even make eye contact with me anymore, and I’m pretty sure he banged my wife the following weekend.

Whistle hit upside the helmet is 10X’s worse. I’ve had both. Both times I learned my lesson and was never butthurt. If I saw my coaches today I would thank them.
