My nephew is a junior in HS. He went to some ring thing at school last night where the parents go and the ring people are there and all that good stuff.

The cheapest ring is $700. His mom wants him to get a gold ring which is $900.

Is it me or is that steep? I didn't even get a graduation ring. I didn't see the point and I thought only losers wore their HS graduation ring when they were in college so I didn't even bother.

But this has to be a sweet deal for these ring companies. They get to go to high schools and don't even really have to sell them on buying one, everyone there is there for one reason, to buy a graduation ring. I bet the markup on those things are insane..

Anyway, had to purchase a graduation ring for their kids in past few years? Is that what they really cost?

My son and daughter are juniors and they have rings for as little as $400.

My son will probably get one about that price. My daughter wants a nice gemstone ring and skip the class ring. She’ll end up with a college ring though.

Graduation Watch > Graduation Ring

Either way, getting something that pricey as an accomplishment for graduating highschool is stupid.

Do you make a thread for every random thought that pops into your tiny idle brain?

This... Didn't get a ring, got a nice watch from my parents... Still wear it 30 something years later.

You can go on Jostens or Balfour websites and get them for a lot less than $700.

I got a sweet wooden ring for graduating Vo-Tech. Hardest six weeks of my life so it was nice to be rewarded.

Maybe but I think it might be more likely that whoever got the vendor didn't really do their homework. I told my brother that was insane and that he could go online and find a place that is cheaper and he was like "well that's where they all order them from".

That would seem like the obvious thing to do, but hey... Good for the company if they can convince all of those parents to spend that much on the rings..

I don't think that's how it works. College, at least, you have to go through Jostens or Balfour - whomever the school has the agreement with. Would assume the same for HS...
