60 minutes on Legal Weed Farms/Industry in California

Anyone else watching this 60 minutes special on legal marijuana? It’s a wonderful example of why everyone who says legalize it and strictly regulate it is doomed to fail due to government red tape.
Apparently it’s illegal to sell weed grown in CA outside of CA, so there is a 15,000,000 lb (I think) surplus of weed

Trump needs to remove weed from the controlled substances scheduling in 2020
Remove all federal prohibition and leave it to the states

Mike Tyson is investing in the business. With his business savvy moves you know it is a business poised to make history.

Red tape is a serious issue, but the true problem is that those in the industry are trying to navigate the regulations just as much as the regulators. There are very few people who actually have a working understanding of how the industry operates, and even then it’s changing on a daily basis.
Zoning, neighborhood/city meetings, the capital it takes to even get your foot in the door, not to mention dealing with the application process with the CCC, is all a nightmare. Of the hundreds trying to get in, maybe dozens will make it over the next few years.
In time, things will get more or less figured out. But those who have already broken through and opened up with a license, whether that be dispensary or cultivation, have a distinct leg up.
But legalization and regulation is good not only for the seller, but for the consumer as well. To think otherwise is idiotic.

Legalized weed in California has been anything but a failure, judging by the dank arse clouds I walk through on a daily basis

federal delisting will solve that problem instantly. Oregon is already exporting their surplus. All those midwestern and NE states that are legalizing will have to import. Canada will need product as well

You mean you cant traffic illegal drugs across state lines and the federal government has laws about it?!
FWIW, that's sarcasm for OP and I'm a MMJ card holder. Illinois about to fall on its face come Jan 1st when rec is legal.

That's why you need a national level of legalization. Right now it's all fricked up because of a little bastard known as the supremacy clause. Not to mention it's illegal in most states which makes transportation very difficult

Bottom line is there are still way too many regulations.

I don't think that is the case. It is a new legal industry that is still illicit on the Federal level and has varying laws from state to state. When one of the country's largest AG states with some of the best outdoor grow climates goes legal in this environment there is going to be a surplus.
Regarding regulation, there is bound to be teething issues and unintended consequences again the State vs Fed conundrum is part of it and the baning issues are far from the least of that.

Murder Mountain on Netflix covers some of the troubles of the industry pretty well.

If a state legalizes weed (which seems sensible), they should empty the jails and prisons of everyone in there on weed convictions immediately.

They are not allowed to use fdic insured banks, can't claim expenses on their federal tax returns, and if literally anything crossed state lines to make the weed, interstate commerce clause kicks in. It's bullshite.

This sounds like a congressional problem...

Because weed is still illegal, federally.

Market forces should adjust production to be in equilibrium with demand. Plus, California has a long history of folks growing their own for their own consumption. Despite the potential size of the market, Colorado has done a better job with "Stoner" tourism to this point.

So they promoted Joe Biden and marijuana last night. Makes sense.

Weed is an interesting crop. Once it becomes fully legalized I think it'll end up just like craft beer. Some major players in the market and then the cast of thousands struggling to make money. Especially since any Joe blow can learn how to grow their own weed at their home
