Vehicle was parked in the driveway, and window is smashed. They actually did not get through the window, but it’s clearly a break-in attempt. Is there any point in filing a police report. Or should I just suck it up and replace the window.

Depending on your insurance company, a police report may be required for them to replace it.

What are you doing wasting time here? These are valuable moments that the cops could be canvasing the area looking for witnesses or dna testing evidence left at the crime scene!!! Call them now!!! They need to give justice as much as you need to have it!!!!

It cost me a $100 to replace my Tundra drivers door window using a local owned auto glass company

You should report it, but don’t expect much to happen. Robberies are hard to solve if no one is around to see it. Make the police aware though. If there is a pattern in the neighborhood or something, they might be able to catch him later.

ETA: Is it really worth calling insurance? It’s not an expensive fix, and they’ll find a way to frick you later.

Or your neighbor was weed eating/mowing and hit a rock.

Won’t do you any good. Just move on or stop living in trashy neighborhoods.

If they didn't get through, nothing will ever come of filing a report. So.... only if it makes you feel better.

Report it so that it is logged. If it happens to other people and everyone reports it then it the police might make random patrols through your area.

Definitely no point in New Orleans. Just had to replace mine for the first time in 2 years of living here and I consider that a win.

not if you're with a decent company who's goal is to insure and not just sign as many people up with cheap rates as possible

You can report it, but it'll be for nothing other than to let the police know that there was a break-in in your area. If your neighbors also had issues, it'll drive for increased patrols.
