you sound like a dumbass too for jumping to conclusions. Schools in my city don't have to be notified ahead of time.

there are at least 50 kids (probably more) that either ride their bike or walk to my kids' school on a daily basis---and that is in jackson

Your co-worker isn't giving you all the deets

Every child should have filled out a transportation sheet at registration. I imagine walker/bike rider wasn't listed on this kids form, and the parents didn't notify the school of the change in writing

I also think the school MUST get some kind of waiver from the parents to allow the child to do so

Why should the school "allow" anything that does not happen on campus? If the parent indicated the child needs bus service that's different. They would have issues. Do bus drivers now have the responsibility of reporting who they picked up and who they didn't every morning?

The child is arriving on campus unescorted. If you do not understand how that could put extra liability and responsibility on the school go log into Lexis-Nexis or look at case law in this area.

I’d have my kid ride. I’d also call a meeting with the principle and the pussy I mean teacher.

I walked to school in 9 of my 12 grades.

Granted the primary school years were with a group of kids

The crossing guards kept eyes on us using radios to coordinate supervision

Mandatory reporting for not filling out a form?

while the issue may ultimately be as simple as the parent not filling out a form, in the heat of the moment, teachers aren't sure and if they don't interpret things correctly they can break the law so they over-report. can't violate your duties as a MR if you report everything

Contact an attorney first and a reporter second.

Yep.

Every year I have to fill out a form about how my son will go home. Times have changed because parents have changed.

Let's say Billy Bikerider or Suzzie Stroller doesn't make it to school one day (skips, gets lost, hit by car, abducted, etc). Is the school supposed to know whether the kid was sick, with parents or something nefarious happened? You can bet that any teacher or principal that didn't immediately notify parents would be sued with the quickness. No way the schools want that liability, especially without being informed.

Also, is the school responsible for making sure the bikes aren't stolen? What happens when the kid goes outside and someone else has taken the bike? Does he call the parents? Take a bus? Does someone from the school have to wait for a parent to show up?

Finally, this situation may have the child living only four blocks from the school, but who trusts a 7 year old to go straight home every day? Is that on the school too? And, how long is the 7 year old going to be left alone at home? How is the school to know that a parent will be there?

No, mandatory reporting for "child endangerment."

As we do not know what school you do not know if this a policy of the school or the system. It could be a mandate that school counsel recommended due to a previous issue. Perhaps others have been fired or suspended for not following this policy. I have worked for companies where I had to do some really dumb stuff I did not want to do but I had no control over it because I could get fired if I did not follow policy.

So take your criticism of the underpaid and overworked/overmanaged teacher and shove it up your arse next to your boyfriend's load.

Yeah, like I said, sounds made up to rile up the “pussification of America” crowd

Kids walk and ride to school to all the elementary schools around here

Contact a reporter so they can look like a moron for wanting to report that a school is being overprotective of children? News you can use? And please let me know which attorney will take this case and what his case would be. Look up the case law and let me know.

I walked to school in first grade. I even had to cross Monroe street in Mandeville to get there.

It was fun growing up in a world where if a kid showed he's capable of doing something, he does it.

There is nothing surprising about this story. Public schools are run by pearl clutching women and soft silly men.

I’m sure they aren’t. I’m sure some don’t allow it.

The CPS part still sounds made up.

The OP is known for making up stories like this to troll the OT.
