I hope your coworker went up to the school and lost it on those fricking losers. Our school system nowadays is a breeding ground for turning kids into as big of weak, bowing to authority pussies as they possibly can.

Child predators are all over. Let one child get taken and I bet these affluent parents will leave that kid in school extended care.

This is pure low IQ ignorance. You do not know who is forcing this policy and why it is policy so instead of trying to navigate toward that and toward a solution you go full mouth breather. PEOPLE WHO REACT LIKE THIS ARE THE PROBLEM.

That's retarded. There's no "heat of the moment". Teachers don't report directly to CPS. They report to a local or system admin that reviews and possibly reports to CPS.

Gee, with an attitude like that, I can't possibly imagine why the school has such blanket policies, and won't leave it up to the parents.

Get a grip. If you want to "lose it" on anyone, save it for the school board or the superintendent, who is the one making these policies.

schools aren't in the business of evaluating hundreds of different situations making calls on which are acceptable and which are not. blanket policies dude.

They don’t have to. That’s what transportation forms are for.

If a parent wants their 7 year old kid to walk/bike home and the school will allow it, state that on the form. It’s simple.

There’s nothing to “evaluate” and other than the parents, no one else’s opinions should come into play. Including yours and mine. That’s my point.

I don't know if I'd allow my 7 year old to do that but I wouldn't go apeshit if someone did. Have to know the kid and the situation to make a real determination. Some kids are different and more able at that age.

That being said, no way I'm letting a 7 year old do this solo, regardless of where you live, too many creepy fricks out there.

This. No way I would let a kid do this in these times. All you have to do is turn on the news and there seems to be a kid every week who is abducted. When I was that age in the 70's I walked/rode bike to school everyday, but that was a different time and the creepers are everywhere.

Also I dont have an issue with the school making an issue of this. They watch the news too and are only covering their asses.

My 2nd grader rides maybe half a mile to school on his bike every day. Should I be worried? Geez...

There were just as many creepers and abductions then, you just didn't have the 24 hour news channels, social media, amber alerts on your phone, etc. blasting it in your face

There are fewer non-family kidnappings today than at basically any point in US history.

You're wrong.

Louisiana places the burden on the person who is notified of the potential abuse to report to CPS. The teacher may go to administration and the contact together but at the end of the day, its the teacher that is legally required to report.

You watch too much dateline… You are more likely to be abducted in the 70s then your kid would be today. By a large margin.

When I went to Red Oaks Elementary I walked through Brandywine apartments, through St Louis King of France, across Sherwood Forest Blvd and through another set of apartments, before I reached the neighborhood. There’s a 50% chance of death for a small white kid to take that route today

That’s some bullshite. I suspect that CPS was not very receptive, based on my professional experience.

For all of us that grew up in the 80s and 90s which was a much more violent time period and yet riding bikes was prevalent, what is it about todays world that is worse ?

I'm not wrong. In all those words you didn't dispute anything that I said. My point was that teachers are not running off at recess to call CPS. Suspicions are reported to a counselor first.
