That is so outlandish that I doubt it was said, but if it was it is out of line.
There should be some type of transportation form filled out. Was that done?

Kids still walk to and from school all the time, must be more to the story or maybe your coworker is being over dramatic

there are at least 50 kids (probably more) that either ride their bike or walk to my kids' school on a daily basis---and that is in jackson

Your co-worker isn't giving you all the deets
Every child should have filled out a transportation sheet at registration. I imagine walker/bike rider wasn't listed on this kids form, and the parents didn't notify the school of the change in writing

I’d have my kid ride. I’d also call a meeting with the principle and the pussy I mean teacher.

I walked to school in 9 of my 12 grades.
Granted the primary school years were with a group of kids
The crossing guards kept eyes on us using radios to coordinate supervision

Contact an attorney first and a reporter second.

I walked to school in first grade. I even had to cross Monroe street in Mandeville to get there.
It was fun growing up in a world where if a kid showed he's capable of doing something, he does it.

Well there’s your buddy’s problem.
The school can’t just let a bunch of elementary school kids decide how they’re going to depart campus. It’s pretty easy to imagine what can go wrong if elementary school teachers just dismissed everyone and let the kids just figure it out.
If the teacher was expecting the kid to be in the carpool line, is parents would have filled out a transportation form saying he was a car rider. They can’t just ignore that.
As for the CPS threat part, that sounds unlikely. If they were “considering calling CPS” why would they tell the parents? Maybe it went down that way but I doubt it. This is coming from the wife (who was probably embarrassed), to your buddy, then to you.

Sounds like your kid got cold feet about banging his teacher and she snapped

I rode my bike to school from 2nd- 5th grade, and it was like 2 miles. They had a big bike rack out front for all the kids that rode their bike to school. It was great.
Posted on 8/20/19 at 8:41 am to SirSaintly
Wait... Whats wrong with riding a bike to school?
Posted on 8/20/19 at 8:57 am to SirSaintly
When I lived near my elementary, you had to turn in a signed form saying your parents were fine with you riding your bike to school.
They figured this shite out decades ago. Why do people make this so hard?

What in the world has our society come to? Coworker said his wife brought kid today to save anymore embarassment for the kid, but they're considering letting him continue to ride in the future and daring anyone to question it.
I would lose my shite with the teacher and principal if this happened to me and mine...yes, probably a bad move.

Our elem school only will dismiss kids as "walkers" if they live within 2 blocks of the school, and an adult meets them at the gate to accompany them.
The schools are too afraid of getting sued if something happens to an unaccompanied child on the way home.
The threat to call CPS is extreme, no doubt, and I'd be having a conversation with my school board member about that.
Even on our school buses, they will not let a kid in grades K-2 get off the bus unless there is an adult or older child to meet them at the bus stop. They will let kids in grades 3-5 off the bus to walk from the stop home, but bus stops are no more than a half block away from any house.
We can sit here and say snowflakes, etc, but these schools are scared to death of liability.

Mine probably rode his bike in 2nd, I know he did 3rd and 4th, we have a crossing guard on the only street the kids cross.
All the kids in our neighborhood walk or ride bikes

This story sounds like bullshite
I'm pretty damn sure that a parent has to tell the school how the kid is getting home.

4 blocks is pretty far for a 7 year old and I see why that would raise eyebrows but they're obviously going over the top about it.
I would never let a 7 year old ride 4 blocks after school. That's easy pickings for a pedophile who knows how to press a child's buttons.

I live about 2 blocks from an elementary and high school and I'd say most of those kids ride or walk to school.

I hope your coworker went up to the school and lost it on those fricking losers. Our school system nowadays is a breeding ground for turning kids into as big of weak, bowing to authority pussies as they possibly can.
