Chicken is pretty cheap at the grocery store compared to the per oz price at Popeyes. A jar of pickles costs a few dollars. Ditto on mayo. 8 buns is $1.29 at Super 1.
Isn't the bun brioche?
Anyway - Have you ever battered and fried chicken at home? It is a complete pain in the arse and probably the #1 food that is always better from a restaurant purely for the no mess aspect.

not to mention you're likely only going to get one use from that oil since you're probably only going to make fried chicken once every couple of months.

carmax type class be eating at popeyes. That's too lowly for me.

I tried Shake Shack for the first time last week. Was pretty satisfied with their burger. You telling me that the chicken sandwich is better than CFA or Popeyes?
Blows away CFA, better than Popeyes too. I don't think about eating anything else from there. It's so damn good.

Y’all moved the goalposts.
The question was whether a better chicken sandwich could be made at home for $4. The answer is obviously yes. It would be a pain in the arse, but that wasn’t the question.

You can’t buy the oil alone, not even including everything else, for <$4. As for the quality/taste not too many people can fry chicken like popeyes

Try one beerjeep. Meh, you probably live in the middle of nowhere.

Chick Fil A waffle fries are still better than Popeye's though.
Those things are garbage. Tasteless garbage.

it absolutely is.
i can buy 5 quarts of oil for less than $20 but the hell if i'm going to jack my car up, find all the necessary tools, crawl underneath and then get squirted in the face with dirty oil when the plug comes out so i can say "a better oil change can be done at home for $20"
thats the same thing. not moving the goalposts because the prep work is part of it. you dont get to say 'oh you can't count already having a skillet, oil, flour, seasonings and the time to prep and clean it up'

I haven't had SS, but I was mistakenly given a chicken sandwich from Mooyah that was absolutely delicious. I don't think I've ever gone back for a burger since then.

Yep. Plus I hate when the cost of an item is broken down into cost per serving when you're not a family.
If you're one person who presumably will not be consuming 8 sandwiches at once, my view is that the cost of the item is the total cost of the ingredients.

Am I the only one ordering extra crispy fries? It was a game changer for me and Chick Fil-a.

Are we really discussing if this sammich is expensive at $3.99 when Subway’s shitty 6 inch subs are $4.50?
