re: I lied to a girl I'm trying to impress, told her I can run a 5k in under 29 minutes (DONE)

You can’t compare weight/look against aerobic ability.
Heavier people may run and stay in good cardiovascular shape but just don’t eat right.
Alternatively, someone may have a decent metabolism but never works out.
The heavier person would beat the lighter person most times.

Also, read on a post from July that the OP said he was 25....which the guy at 39mins was 27. There was a 25 that finished in 48mins.....

Maybe I’m just completely out of touch with how out of shape most people are, even people that look to be in decent shape.
You should have seen me when I started running after nearly a decade of no exercise. I wasn't overweight. I was actually very much normal. However, I was extremely out of shape in terms of cardio. It took me a bit to get below a 30 min 5k. Running 1 lap on a track was an early milestone for me.

Have any reports from hospitals been made?
Where is the OP? He checked in with us minutes before the race, now nothing.

A.) Still getting fluids via IV
B.) Still drinking post-race beers
C.) Did OK, went to girl's house to shower, things progressed,
he used reserve energy to close the deal.
D.) Girl finished way ahead, texted OP, "let's meet after",
he never saw her again.

If he's 25, he could have finished in 19 minutes, 27, or 48.
Let's just safely assume it's not the 19 minute guy. If it's the 27 minute man, OP is in like Flynn if he isn't dead from the physical exertion. If he's the 48 minute man, OP is probably single again.

I'm 25 and dating a 30 year old.
Maybe one of them had a birthday after that post, so he is either 25 or 25, and she could be 30 or 31. Perhaps they would have bib #s pretty close to one another, if they registered together.

Pathetic for him to not post since the race.

She ran this same 5k last year and finished in 31 minutes.
If this is true, someone should be able to find who she is at least.

Would you be able to post if you were in a coma?
@ Cowboyfag89... Hey there, Tex. Get on it and find out for us.

You dare address me in such a manner, and then issue commands?!
Kick rocks.

This has been my favorite thread of the year so far.
Good natured ribbing, solid info, idiots outing themselves and overall camaraderie with a man who embellished on the truth to get laid.
Good on you OT.

Hopefully OP is getting rewarded for his efforts.

You'd think that, but you'd be wrong. Most people would be sucking wind after a quarter of a mile. Much less three miles.
Exactly, and what people here seem to be failing to understand is that
quote:
decent shape
Doesn’t necessarily mean
quote:
run three miles without stopping
If you’re getting the doctor recommended 20 minutes per day of physical activity, you’re technically “in shape”, but that doesn’t mean you can run a 5K without stopping.

WHERE THE FRICK ARE YOU OP?!?

A few years ago, a bunch of us were drinking one night. One of the women is an elite runner and was going to run in a road race the next day. After many beers, we all thought we could run a 5K since she was running a 10K.
We didn’t register, but planned on peeling off before the finish line. I hadn’t run a lick, but was in pretty decent shape from lifting weights and used to be a sprinter in college. One of the women had been running fairly regularly and her and I soon started running together. My goal was to make it a mile without walking. I did that, then reached the halfway point. At that point, I decided I wasn’t going to walk no matter what and I was going to keep up with my woman friend. Well, I finished in 29 minutes, but could hardly walk for a few days afterwards. I was also a lot older than the OP and hungover, so it is possible.
