Officer shoots homeowner after responding to a false alarm from alarm company (video)

Brown said the alarm company and 911 dispatchers tried to contact the homeowner, but were unable to.

Obviously it sucks to get shot but as the homeowner you have to be happy with the police response here had it been a real break in.

When I listened to the call from the alarm company to 911, it sounded like the alarm company person never said "medical silent alarm" but just "silent alarm".
Then, the officer rang the doorbell at midnight but I guess (speculation) never actually announced himself vocally before shooting the homeowner through the front door/window after seeing the homeowner with a gun.

Why would you assume a medical alarm doesnt ever involve injury from a break in? Maybe it was the most convenient alert mechanism and what was he doing with a gun if he was having a medical emergency?
I'm not saying the officer is absolved but it's not like it was obvious what was going on.

They tell you during the commercials they can be used for medical, fire, or break in situations. I watch enough weather channel to see these a lot.

...accept it wasn't a break-in. He was responding to a medical alert.
Are we to the point now where we're ok having police shoot into building without being able to actually see what they're shooting at...and when they hit the homeowner the homeowner's first response should be, "Well...even though I own this place and you shot me without any clear sight of what you were shooting at within a locked home, thanks for responding so fast!"

I never understood this thought.
Why am I supposed to put my gun down because the person at my door at midnight claims they are a cop. It is very easy for a burglar to say these words too...

This is 100% terrible decision making by the officer and/or poor training. There is no procedure or training that calls for him to do what he did. This type situation is avoidable 100% of the time if the officer follows their training. It is gross negligence, and the officer should be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible.

That is fricked up.
I know the attorney handling the homeowner's case, I argued on the other side several times when he was a federal prosecutor. He is a better civil attorney than criminal, the homeowner chose well.

Yea...that is a really bad response by the officer. No way to defend it. I get things happen, but you don't identify yourself and shoot through a window? Can't be the right way to handle the situation.

I’m glad he survived because that would be devastating for that family. I thought he died while watching the video and that shite isn’t good for a Monday
