I wouldn’t call 2500 mo long distance. I would call that vacation has started.
5-6K per month.
My job re unites a team ick so I have s nice truck and the can retain value pretty well as long is maintenance is on point and tire care.

Dunno if it was me but I am opinionated about all things petrol head so I could take exception about just about anything car related on a given day and I am a 964 fan, particularly the RS and the late Turbos.
A Boxster/Cayman with the 911 6 cylinder has always been seen as a 911 killer. The GT4 proved it could be a hell of a car but they stop short of giving it a real GT motor. The scary thing is the 718 chassis was essentially as capable as the GT4 right out of the box. A wide body version of the 718 with the Turbo S's 552hp engine might be my perfect car.
As for the best handling sub 100K cars there are a select few I have driven in anger I would put above the 718, the GT4 (better high-speed grip and better balance for the track) and the Lotus Elise. The Elise has the best chassis of any non-track day car I have ever driven. I used to say I could tell if I drove over a quarter in a E36 M3 and feel a penny if I drove over it in a 964 911 but I could feel and dime in an Elise and tell you whether it was heads or tails up. The 718 and its predecessors are fabulous cars and I just laugh at the people that call them chick cars but those are people that couldn't find an apex with GPS and think trail braking is something you do in the woods to avoid hitting a deer.

I have a 2014 cayman S and I’ve upturned the Hp, changed out the plenum, sport exhaust and a few other things.
The only thing I wish I could do is replace those round running lights with the horizontal lights.
I’m thankful I have the flat 6.

as long as you change oil regularly toyota engines any trannys average 400-500k miles before the they wear out
Or a Lexus with 150K on it. Should go to 300K easy with all the easy highway miles you're putting in it.

The biggest positive to the 718's turbo 4 is how it responds to tuning. Porsche NA engines have always been expensive to get more power out of and most of that power comes in the high end of the power band just like any high revving NA engine with high HP/L. That's why I have always gravitated to the 911 Turbo cars they respond so well to tuning. On a 991.2 you can get 640 pound/feet @3000rpm to the wheels with just a flash and a header back exhaust and you are at 700 pound/ft. You can get a lil crazier and add a larger intake plenum, Y pipe, decat, methanol injection, and bigger intercoolers and all of a sudden you are making real power.

I drive almost that much. Had an old truck I was driving. Decided to get a car and bought a nice slightly used fusion. You can get a lot of car for your money. What I get paid in mileage almost pays for the car.

lol I don't let it hold me back. I pull a small boat or trailer/4 wheeler with it pretty often. I drive from Laffy to BR everyday so I stop and fish the basin on my way home. I get 30 mpg towing the boat.

We all got that, but it’s still not many miles for salespeople. I’m an extreme case, and I’ll do 75-80 a year. I’d call anything over 50 really high Milage

The Cayman platform is superior to 911 rear engine setup. Porsche obviously knows this as well, but tradition you know. I could only imagine if the engineers were allowed free rein with the chassis and powertrain. Porschphiles would be storming the gates at Schwieberdinger of course...
I'm glad to see GM has the balls to say frick it, we will break tradition and work outside the box instead of in it.

Exactly. I bought a 2006 Ford Explorer 2 years ago for $2000 and I've put 80,000 miles on it since.
Rides great, runs great but the resell value it gone. No need to sell it, it's the perfect burner vehicle. Will drive it till the wheels fall off...
Then I'll buy new wheels for it.

I clock about 40k miles a year.
I buy a good used car (100k mile toyota or something similar) for cash and run it into the ground. Theyll hold up a long time and do decent on fuel. Cant have shitty college kid car because I ocassionally have a customer with me.
I had a manual transmission volkswagen diesel for a while that I had to sell back because of the emission scandal. That was the ultimate commuter car and I'm still bitter about having to sell it back.

When you're putting that many miles on a vehicle, it makes ZERO sense to spend much money on it.
Something with that many miles is not going to hold its value for long.
Find something that:
A) fits your needs
B) is comfortable for you to drive since you're going to be in it quite a bit
C) gets good mileage
D) has a good reliability record
Best to not spend too much money up front, since you won't likely get it back after driving the hell out of it.
I have a Jeep Patriot that I bought in 2011 that has over 224,000 miles on it. It's a pile of crap, but it has held up fairly well, gotten 30 MPG, and was cheap up front ($13,750 out the door).
Something with that many miles is not going to hold its value for long.
