Need advice from High mileage drivers. What do you do?
I get a good stipend from my company, so a monthly payment isn’t really the issue as much as it is finding a nice car that doesn’t depreciate like crazy after putting so many miles on it. I drive roughly 2500 miles per month, so leasing isn’t likely a good idea, and buying is just as bad. Besides choosing to drive a Ford focus, what does everyone do in these situations? Gotta remember I live in this car all day and it’s the car I drive my family around in.

Wait until you get promoted to manager where you don’t have to drive as much. In the meantime, get a cheap used car and run it into the ground.

This.

If you get a car for $2500 and make it last a year, it's cheaper than a car note.

I’d get a Toyota SUV. I have an ‘08 rav 4 with 260,000 miles that I use as my work vehicle. Still runs like a champ and gets 28 mpg going across the lake. I’ll drive it until it quits.

Minivan. They get great mileage and you can haul a lot of shite in them.

Or maybe just a high end large sedan

I'm in nearly the same situation as you and I went with a 4 year old MDX with a shade under 40k miles. I keep my vehicles until 200k miles though.

2500 miles is not close to being a high mileage driver.

One sales rep that I know that has been running the road for 30ish years. He has figured out the Honda Pilot is the best. He buys one low mileage and goes to 200,000 and repeats the process.

re: Need advice from High mileage drivers. What do you do?
get a carolla or camry with under 150k miles, if you want a 2 door then get the solara instead or whatever toyota you like

as long as you change oil regularly toyota engines any trannys average 400-500k miles before the they wear out

as for holding resale value, you can forget about that, because the high mileage you will put on it will make its resale value worthless.

toyotas hold their value the best because people who know cars know a 250-300k mile car still has many miles of good life still left in it.

in your case with that much driving you shouldnt even think anything you buy will be worth selling when you are done so drive it until the engine or tranny gives out, then buy another used toyota

While I don't put near as many miles as in the past I used to routinely put 50-60k a year on my "travel" car. I would buy 2-3 year old Lexus ESs and put 400-500k miles on them without basically nothing more than maintenance. Great ride without being floaty and easy to drive for 8-12 hours at a time. Plenty of room for traveling and a family of 4.

I get a company car. If I received a stipend I would probably buy a 2-3 year old car with about 20,000 or so miles and just drive it into the ground. I drive about 45,000 per year, and usually get a car every 2 years. I have purchased a few cars from our company before they are being turned in. My son still has a Ford Escape with about 175,000 miles still going strong.
I guess the decision is: do you need a small suv (like a escape) or a car (i’d go with a Honda) - but it really just comes down to personal preference.
At least get something comfortable and maybe satellite radio -that seems to make all the difference.

I’m a district manager and I drive a ton but get paid $.58 a mile which more than compensates me for wear and tear. I’ve thought about buying a Tesla and making straight cash from my mileage
