It wasn’t great. FWIW, that is in the top-5 nastiest kegs I’ve ever seen as well.

This thread seems like it's bordering on bragging territory rather than "what's your favorite" but i digress.

My favorite hoppy beer right now is Tin Roof Voodoo. It's readily available, it has an appropriate ABV to be an all day drinker, and tastes fantastic. I had a 7/10/19 can yesterday and it's better than the previous batches, IMO. I was highly critical of Tin Roof early on because their beer just wasn't good, but the last 2 years has been great for them. Doesn't hurt hey won a gold at GABF for Voodoo either.

Other hoppy beers i enjoy or have enjoyed in the past.

Parish Ghost in the Machine - It's become a victim of it's own success, and i find that the availability of it year round, as predicted by many, would make it seem less special. But, this is still a high quality NEIPA. I still hold the opinion that some of it's earlier batches were far superior to what is out now prior to the yeast change years ago, but it is still very very good.

Pliny the Elder - Haven't had it in about 4 years, but it was a fantastic IPA.

Ballast Point Sculpin - Great west coast style IPA

Scofflaw Pog Basement - Had one at the Atlanta airport a couple months ago. More of a west coast style pale ale, but it had an incredible amount of grapefruit flavor to it. Followed it with a creature comforts tropicalia, and IMO, Pog basement was so much better.

Whole Foods on Post Oak, Hop Explorer 12 - This was the best NEIPA beer i've ever had (at the time, 2 years ago). It's the beer that caused me to completely change my brewing mindset for my NEIPA homebrews. It was incredibly fruity. Was not chewy like most poorly made NEIPA's (which make up about 75% of NEIPA's out there). It wasn't too minerally. It had a perfect balance. And, from what i've heard, Urban South's Houston brewery hired the Whole foods brewer to run the show there.

Parish DDH Envie Strata - I know not a lot of people liked this one, but i really enjoyed it. It's a bit faded now, but when it was fresh, i got plenty of grapefruit out of it. And, it didn't have that hop creep bite that some of Parish's other beers have (that i perceive).

Lagunitas Hop Stoopid - Lagunitas' hoppy beers don't really fit into a style, for the most part. I guess if you had to classify it, Hop Stoopid would be closer to West Coast IPA. But this is always an enjoyable beer i'll pick up if i want a change of pace from NEIPA's.

FRESH Sierra Nevada Pale Ale - FRESH, being the key word, because i haven't found a bottle of this younger than 6 months in Baton Rouge. But when i went to Asheville a couple years ago, we went to the SN brewery and i had a fresh SN Pale Ale from the tap, and it was fantastic. It's the beer that bridged the gap from macro to craft beer for many, and drinking it at the brewery, reminded me why. If only we could get it fresh!

It's almost time! Even with the proliferation of the LA beer scene, I still look forward to this every year.

I used to work there (at the S. Lamar location, where that particular beer originated), and the Director of Brewing, Joe Mohrfeld, used to brew for Odell and is one of the most talented guys in the country when it comes to hops. PHP is extremely lucky to have him.
