Vantaze burfict
He's just a dirty player.
Bill Russell threw up before every game and was fairly controversial when he was young.
Michael Jordan was notorious for driving 100+ on Chicago freeways. The Jordan Rules has a story about him passing a cop on the shoulder doing 120.

I love Vontaze Burfict for just this reason. He's insane. Fits in the mold of Dexter Manley or Mike Curtis. Ronnie Lott was also intense as hell, though clearly a better player. Singletary was intense as hell, but not really reckless. but those eyes, man.
Vernon Maxwell was fun as hell for this reason, as was Iverson. Pretty much every player in the ABA was insane, though maybe lacked the intensity unless we're talking about partying. Sugar Bear Barnes stories are the best. But maybe David Thompson before the drug habit. Larry Bird was famously intense as was Bill Laimbeer, though their intensity manifested in different ways.
Pete Rose is the easy answer in baseball. No one was close to his level of red arse.
Hockey lacks a lot of reckless crazy people. Canadians are quietly intense but will "yes, ma'am" you to death. Dale Hunter was insane, so was Claude Lemieux. Theo Fleury probably is on this list. Oh, and Dino Ciccarelli. Bob Probert was probably one of the craziest people in sports history, but that was the drugs and booze. Ovi is probably the only crazy player today. Russian Machine Never Breaks.

Reggie Bush & Desean Jackson with all the flips and laterals and dropping of the ball before getting in the end zone and things like that.

He was not an athlete
An athlete is regarded as someone who participates in sports.
Auto Racing is a sport, so while traditionally non-athletic in the observed expenditure racecar drivers are in fact athletes. It does require a lot of training and physical ability to perform as they do with that precision in a 130-DEG to 140-DEG racecar.

Hands down the best Russell Westbrook comparison by the watt.
And I love both players...and can understand why some might not.

Ken Griffey, Jr. wasn't really that intense, but he was definitely reckless with his body.

I think Iverson is similar. Unique skillset but can't win it all with him.
