Welfare was not meant to be a career - true story

This is a true story I overheard on Monday while in a big box retail store. Their mentality is sickening.
Retail Person A: I cut back my hours on purpose.
Retail Person B: Why?
Retail Person A: So I could qualify for Food stamps because they said
I was making too much money so they shut my card off.
They had the nerve to tell me I should be able to feed myself.
Retail Person B: You entitled to that. Try again.
Retail Person A: I am. I'm taking my check stubs today. That's why I dont want a full time job.

Being forced to pay for food was cutting into their weed money.

It's called the welfare cliff, and I'm not really sure how you fix it.

True story. My wife worked at a daycare on the Westbank for a year and one of her coworkers was like that. She was offered full time, but turned it down because it would affect her benefits. My wife gladly took the opportunity to get more hours.
ETA: That lady ended up quitting and opening her own daycare on Garden Oaks Drive

A clerical tech in the Emergency Department got a better-paying job in a doctor's office. Six months later she was back. She quit the better job because "I lost my housing; I was making too much"

if you are to qualify for financial help from any governmental institution, you must put in X hours working for that municipality. i dont care if it is pushing a lawnmower, making copies, stacking inventory, or anything else.
Then there must be a MAX time period to receive any benefits.
Problem is that there are people the truly need help. Bigger problem is that there are even more people that will abuse the system.
