All that stuff would be opt in. You only get it if you give up your UBI. Not a perfect solution, and I don't support UBI, but at least he isn't ideologically tied to making UBI work on top of our current system, but sees it as a way to help ween people off the government teet.

The rest of the nominees are Leftist loonbags that haven’t had dinner with someone with less than a 6 figure income in years. Maybe Tulsi Gabbard, but I don’t see anyone else. I’d say take this seriously.
Steve Bullock, but Perez cut him off the debate stage.

The more experienced Dems will crush him long before he makes it to Trump. He'll fall in line like a good little Democrat and endorse the nominee in exchange for a potential cabinet post and future political considerations.

Link?

I hadn't noticed the infrastructure investments at a federal or state level, let alone a municipal level, that would allow anything remotely like this to happen.

There isn't a single electric charging station in my town of 60,000 people, but you think all trucking jobs will be filled by autonomous drivers in 10 years? No fricking way.

Lmao

You really think our politicians are capable of making the other programs opt in? No. It would be UBi with every other useless program.

I'd say about 10-20% of trucking jobs will be gone in the next 15 years. Maybe 30%. The infrastructure isn't there for the most part, and the last mile situation isn't there for there to eliminate jobs completely.

I think it will also be an uber phenomenon as well where if the cost of trucking goes so low, it'll boom by the amount of last mile jobs to offset the lower cost. I also think what you'll see is the AI in shipping shift to investment in rail and even trying to lease dedicated lanes from the government, and think about the timescale on getting roads built.

That being said, Andrew Yang is addressing the right problems and asking the right questions, when no one else in the Democratic Party even cares. They are too busy trying to obstruct a wall to take care of their own citizens. Automation and mass displacement of jobs has such a profound cascading effect we should be constantly worried about it. It already damaged the Midwest and it will damage the rest of the country in a variety of ways if we let it.

Again, not advocating for UBI, just trying to give Yang credit for being thoughtful. I agree that it would be like pulling teeth to make any entitlement program be opt in. The limousine liberals and their white guilt will make it damn near impossible to do that in any context.

I think Yang is sincere

My point is this his idea would be corrupted and just thrown in with other entitlements in a second

It is 7 years.

It was 10 years 3 years ago.

Sir Winston’s vet is a young millennial who moved out here from Minneapolis. She is super bright and has a Yang bumper sticker on her entry level Tesla. He’s kind of captured a lot of what Bernie did last cycle, especially if you include some of Pete’s support.

The technology to run trains automatically has been available for years. Much simpler since you don't have to steer and avoid other shitty drivers.

Where it has been used, transit for the most part, there is still an operator.

There will not be driverless trucks any time soon. Yang is fear mongering.

I don’t know, the Rust Belt already here about their jobs not coming back from a smooth talking dem before. Look how that turned out for 2016. Look how things have gone since. The industry there is coming back to life. Good luck getting them to not vote for Trump again with a platform that fricked you over less than a decade ago.
