Apparently this interview was done back in March.

Just an FYI.

I think it is OK for him to say he wants to play for LA and NY, but to specifically mention one team to threaten needs to be dealt with. This is tampering and manipulation. He has overstepped his bounds and spineless Silver needs to put his foot down. Rivers got fined for saying Kawhi was a good player.

The fact he hasn’t been doing damage control since then tells me he isn’t fully aware of the shitstorm this will unleash.

I don't think RP is smart enough to have anticipated the backlash he is getting.

Holy shite outside of the Lakers homers, the internet is eating him alive.

Maybe that’s the under-the-table deal in place to send a message to players that they don’t get to dictate trade destinations.

If you're a mega star you get, to some degree, to dictate trade destinations. AD's team is using the only leverage play that have, that they will only sign longterm deals with a few teams.

While quitting on your current team midseason was despicable, I understand AD's play here because he ultimately, doesn't get to decide his future right now. The Pels still have him under contract.

The question is do the other teams not named NY/LAL care about AD's only threat? My gut says not really.

Boston is still the most intriguing. They are FAR closer to being a championship level team than LA/NY AND they will tell AD what deep down he already knows, he's not that marketable on his own. He simply doesn't have the personality. Even in LA or NY he will need to be on a championship level team to reap the marketing benefits. And it doesn't appear likely those two organizations are that close right now.

In Boston he becomes the centerpiece of a championship caliber team. That will allow him to overcome his personal lack of marketability.

Sure, if you were dealing with a scared GM.

Ainge doesnt play ball that way. Remember, Garnett refused to play for Boston as well.

Yes, but the reporter has obviously had follow ups with Rich since then given the article also mentions the "reports" that Rich tried to recruit a sitting head coach to join Vogel's staff in May and the reporter included Rich's response to that report that he gave the reporter "last week".

So obviously the reporter had follow up conversations with Rich and likely got more on background in those follow ups. Rich knew what was in this article, given he gave the sit down, if he wanted anything update/clarified, he obviously had the opportunity.

Wasn’t this an interview during the season? He timing of the release has to be orchestrated by Klutch.

AD has been sold on playing in LA with LeBron, winning, and getting millions in endorsements while being a movie star.

The only acting jobs he's getting is as the "before" actor in dentist and laser hair removal commercials.

Can you share what people are saying? I haven’t heard any backlash towards RP.

He might be acting in the best interest of his client by doing this, but this is where the commissioner has to step in. This will create a bad precedent. You can't make a guy play somewhere he doesn't want to play, but if that guy is able to determine his only landing spot and thus eliminate any other offers, then he screws over the small market team that now can't get anything decent back for him.... If you finally hit in the draft, and get a guy that says "Nope" and then forces his way out and you can't get anything in return for him, whats the point in even playing? The game is rigged.

Eventually what will come down is AD and RP being told “accept the trade or take a suspension for conduct detrimental.”

And if the rules for the NBA are anything like other leagues, such a suspension could count against his years of service and mean longer until he can get a true max contract.
