That makes an argument for wolves, there, now show me why bears are important to the ecosystem.

Well, they are predators for one, something lacking in Louisiana.

This is the type of discussion that proves my point about these organizations like RMEF arguing "hunting is conservation". No it's not. Not when there are hunters that think a species should exist in a time and place because they are a "nuisance" and don't belong.

My viewpoint is nothing to do with hunting. It’s about bears being a nuisance. For what, I asked. No need for them in our ecosystem. Do you miss the T. Rex?

Pigs do a lot of damage and are a nuisance too. At least they’re good to eat.

Bears were here first. But then 4.5 million human beings moved in. Thinking large groups of bears can co-mingle with 4.5 million people in a state as small as LA is foolish and irresponsible. We need a season to keep them in check. Or have LDWF control the population. There are too damn many bears.

I'm indifferent about bears. I think they belong here but if they get over populated open up a season, I don't care.

already have them youth model deer rifles but they’re not showing much interest

Not showing much interest? I guess not, buy them youth model shotguns and get after some doves and squirrels. No kid wants to sit in a fricking shooting box watching a corn pile while wasp buzz around their heads.

Humans aren't responsible for the T.rex disappearing. Ignorant example. But, I'm not surprised coming from someone that thinks a species needs a purpose in order to exist. How about the simple fact that it was here before us, and started disappearing because of us? Because of habitat destruction.

Bears require large tracts of forest in order to live. Those large tracts of forest also support a myriad of other species, such as deer, turkeys, rabbits, and non game birds. What other species in Louisiana requires that?

Many people think bear is good to eat too. Some even argue it's some of the best game meat you can eat.

I agree with this. Make them huntable. Instill alittle fear in the bears, and they won't be near the issue.

Bears are 150-200lb raccoons. Change my mind

I think they are more closely related to hogs, even though they have different type feet. Pandas are closely related to racoons though, and aren't really bears. Regardless, bears can still mess some stuff up and can be a bit dangerous if you get too close.

The good thing about bears though, compared to hogs at least, the adults tend to be more solitary types of animals most of the time. A herd of bears could destroy a whole neighborhood if they wanted to.
One passed through our neighborhood about a year ago and he didn't leave a single garbage can standing. Just went down the street turning them over. I didn't see it, but several people caught him on video. By the end of the day, they caught him about 20 miles away.

Wow. Do you profess to love the outdoors? They are an important part of it. The nuisance animal is you.

This argument that bears were here before us is ridiculous. No one addressed my point about buffalos, they were here also at one time, ranged all the way to Florida, last reported sighting in Louisiana early 1800’s.Some years ago a guy around Eunice had 7 Buffalo in a pasture, they went through fence, got on highway one night.Someone ran into them and was killed, family sued and the guy was ruined.By some of your logic,he shouldn’t have been sued. After all buffalos were here before us and automobiles, all the poor guy was doing was trying to reintroduce a species that was once native.
What really pisses me off about the bears goes back to the hogs.Australia developed a poison made of sodium nitrite(met preservative),specific for hogs.Hogs are peculiar in that they lack enzyme to metabolize it.It’s currently being tested and likely to be approved. But if and when it is approved,in areas where bears are ,delivery system will have to be bear proof.Good luck with that,I suppose bears would eat enough of it that it could harm them.Nevertheless the hogs would never get a chance to eat it once the bears got on it.Now If bears are going to eat bait for hog traps, forget trapping them.
Estimated population of hogs in Louisiana is 700,000 and cause estimated $75,000,000 in damage to farmers, forest industry, levees, etc. So we can eleminate a potentially valuable tool to control hogs because we’re worried about some frikking bears.

There's no habitat left for bison. Where are they going to roam wild?

That's not the same as reintroducing bears. He was raising a domestic animal that was descendant from wild bison. Not very distant ancestors, mind you, but not wild by any means.

My opinion is somewhat indifferent on bears. I know they belong, but most of my experiences have been negative with them.

A cinnemon black bear was killed locally at 650 lbs.

Not big raccoons. There's been two fatalities in the past couple of years by black bears in AK
