I agree there, I'd love to be able to hunt bears in Louisiana one day.

At some point they have enough of them to warrant population control.

I may be wrong, but I think one of the reasons used for push back against hunting seasons is that their population/distribution is scattered and not connected.

A few baws having trouble with bears ruining their bunny slipper hunts doesn't necessarily mean that there are enough in the state overall to warrant hunting.

Overrun with bears in Madison Parish. We need a limited season to thin a few. Glad to have them, though.

They aren't right now. It was delisted. But there is a required period of time after delisting when they cannot be hunted.

Now, lawsuits are likely to delay a hunting season for years, and may even result in the bear going back on the list, but only time will tell with that.

I think lot you baws totally missed my point about bears and my objection to having them.I still think they are a nuisance animal and I don’t want them around, cattleman don’t like them because the eat their cow feed and will kill newborn calves.Corn farmers don’t like them because they destroy corn. They get into people’s camps and tear them up.
I don’t have cows,I don’t raise corn and I don’t have a camp,so they haven’t affected me.
What I do have is a hell of a lot of wild hogs that are destroying my land and ruining the enjoyment of my property.I have spent a lot of money on habitat improvement, food plots etc.My deer population is a fraction of what it was before, turkey population is nil(I’ve never shot a wild turkey, never wanted to but I like having them around).Hogs eat turkey eggs, root up my food plots I established specially for turkeys.Used to have lots of box turtles, rarely see them anymore, hogs eat them.I have a maze of roads I maintained to ride around on my golf cart, wife and grandchildren enjoyed it,hogs keep my roads rooted up to the point they are nearly impassable in places.
I have shot hogs, hunted them at night, snared them and was making no progress.I finally bought this high tech hog trap, cost me $8700.00 plus trailer $2200.00 to move it around and have made some progress with that.If bears move in and start eating my hog bait it’s all over.I was eagerly anticipating approval of the sodium nitrate poison Australia is using but it is not likely to be approved in areas where bears are.I think poison is the only viable solution to getting hogs under control but we should eleminate that option because some bears might get harmed.Give me a break!
To suggest I’m not a conservationist because I don’t want bears is totally stupid.I was happy with deer,turkeys,squirrels,rabbits,birds,etc-If the bears are going to interfere with my hog traps hell no I don’t want them and they will interfere if they move on my land.
I hate hogs with a passion, they are a scourge on the earth. They eat all the acorns and pecans the wildlife could be eating, carry numerous diseases, destroy turkey nests, pollute the water, contribute to erosion.I sat in my deer stand several day and saw not one bird of any kind, used to see numerous birds.Only thing I can figure is birds are drinking out of hog wallows, getting sick and dying.
Note to cowboy fan 89- bears are not predators, they are opportunistic omnivores, they will kill and eat a fawn if they find it but they don’t actively hunt. They are more scavengers than anything. We are not lacking predators in Louisiana,we have coyotes,

So you attempt to correct me (wrongly I might add, since being an omnivore does not preclude a species from being a predator; a predator is anything that preys on another species), and then use another species that has similar feeding behaviors as an example? Awesome! Are black bears convetional predators like mountain lions and wolves? No, but that doesn't make them any less of a predator. Killing a deer fawn is exactly why they are predators! The fact that it didn't actively hunt it has nothing to do with whether it's a predator or not.

Hiding behind your hatred of hogs is pretty funny, though.

I've been yelling at squirrels all day today. The bell thing that kept them from climbing up my bird feeder pole slid down. Now they can get to the feeder.

The reason the bell fell is coons can get past it, so they stand on it and eat from the feeders. Them moving around on the bell wallowed out the hole. I need to raise it back up, and wrap something around the pole under it. I need to do it tonight, so I won't be yelling out my backdoor again at squirrels again tomorrow.

What the he’ll are you talking about?I don’t hate bears, they have never bothered me(yet).I just don’t think we need them in Louisiana and I think the government could find better things to spend money on than all the millions they invested in bear restoration. There are plenty of places in the U.S. and Canada that bears live.
I do hate hogs, bears are getting uncomfortably close to me and I am scared to death they are going to find my hog bait and eleminate my ability to trap hogs.
All I can do is hope all you bear lovers get a good dose of wild hog trouble ,then ya’ll see where I’m coming from. You’ll want the hogs gone by any means possible, the bears be damned.

That's beside the point. Not that it matters to you...

You started a thread to rant about bears and how you are concerned that their existence near you may threaten your ability to poison hogs...there is more to that than "I think the government wasted money on bears". You may not hate them, but they definitely piss you off.

Do all animals have a right to exist solely because they aren't a nuisance?

I’m about tired of discussing this shite, some of you guys are all in for the bears,so be it.
The fact remains hogs are taking over and I can foresee a situation like the pythons in the Everglades, they have virtually exterminated all the native wildlife there.Hogs are do tremendous damage in the state of Louisiana, among other states.Texas is feverishly experimenting with poison to try and get pigs under control.Article Mar.2019 estimated they have 2 million pigs, killing 30 % a year-shooting,trapping,helicopter hunting and they need to get that up to 70 % a year just to keep the population from growing.
Trapping is significantly more effective than hunting, some states such as Missouri have outlawed hunting pigs on public land because it interferes with their trapping programs.
I have had much better luck trapping than I ever had hunting them.Guy up the road with 2 traps like mine caught 197 in February alone, try shooting that many.
My fear is since bears are being seen close to my land( and his),If bears find our traps and eat our bait, games over.Poison will never be an option in Louisiana due to the bears,
When the hog situation gets bad enough we won’t have bears either, bears can’t out-compete pigs for food plus hogs carry bunch of diseases.Water quality studies in central Louisiana found a host of nasty bacteria that the pigs contaminated the water with. Two of the worst are leptospiros and brucellosis, dogs are vaccinated for those.
So we’ll protect the bears in Louisiana at the expense of all our other native wildlife, birds, the farmers, cattleman, our levees,on and on.Don’t make much sense to me but whatever.

By that reasoning, Jaguars should be reintroduced.
