My viewpoint is nothing to do with hunting. It’s about bears being a nuisance. For what, I asked. No need for them in our ecosystem. Do you miss the T. Rex?

The T Rex part comes off as really stupid.

They’ve been protected for future profit and there’s a decent population in CenLa. Leave em be!

There's been two fatalities in the past couple of years by black bears in AK

I wonder what causes more deaths in the lower 48: highway accidents involving deer, which are grossly overpopulated, or bears.

I think highway deaths due to deer outnumber all other animal deaths - combined in the US

We need a season to keep them in check. Or have LDWF control the population. There are too damn many bears.
first they have to proof the populations are stable and co-mingling which they have...

lawsuits not withstanding limited bear hunting in LA is not too far off.

Deer by far because of traffic accident but that's not quite the same as maulings

Bear are pretty damn awesome critters. I don't see how any outdoorsman has an issue with them.

Me either. I find it funny that folks will use one or two deaths as an excuse to try and drastically cut predator populations but ignore the highway deaths caused by game animals. The logic of it isn't consistent. It's kind of like the folks who claim they hunt deer because without hunters the population would explode but they shoot coyotes because they hurt the deer populations.

.Buffalos(bison) were in Louisiana also at one time,I don’t see anyone wanting to re-establish them

Bison need lots of flat ground to roam. We don't have that in Louisiana, but we have woods for black bears.

They may indeed- but that noble thought goes out the window when you go outside and find one having his way with your garbage can- and becomes annoyed that you yell at him to go away.

Got em Pointe Coupee & West Feliciana Parsh as well

Daughter had a mama and two cubs run thru her yard about a week ago. Scared the crap out of her and grandson.

My take, quit feeding the wild life and you will not have a problem with it.

Someone needs to tell them to quit tipping over feeders

They tipped over my 800 lb dumpster regularly. I had to get smarter than the bears and secure that thing.

seems like bears are the furry equivalent of alligators. I respect their role in the ecosystem. But when they become so numerous that they start to become a nuisance, its time to consider a population reduction.
I have no beef with bears- yet. But alligators are beyond OOC. The annual harvest aint cutting it. They need to cull these things back big time.

maybe they should look at how prolific gators have become and see If maybe the same thing will happen with bears.

not apples to apples beats have very low fecundity they reproduce every other year and their litter size is small alligators reproduce every year and can lay many eggs

also, over the years the collecting of wild alligator eggs, incubating them and releasing them back into the wild as per regulations and then the low market has caused the population to skyrocket

hard to believe alligators were endangered and even more crazy to think brown pelicans were almost extinct

Bears are an indicator species, which denotes a healthy ecosystem. I imagine at some point they'll open up a season.

good points.

all I'm suggesting is that they don't need to be treated as threatened forever. At some point they have enough of them to warrant population control. I believe gators are at that point. Some certainly think the bears are as well.

hunting will be the next step after a species is delisted they have to continue monitoring the population for so many years (seven I believe)

probably landowner tags and small lottery hunts will be first
