I'm completely serious. Do you consider a forfeit if you run out of pitching?

If we pull a miracle out tomorrow, we are out of arms come Saturday.

The tourney just isn't worth throwing guys that we will need in the NCAAs on short rest

Short-sided thinkers will blow their top at this idea, but we have bigger goals than this tournament.

Pitch position players?

Hell as far as that goes they may run out of pitching tomorrow. Who is even available?

If we use everyone on our staff and win then I would have no problem sending out position players to start Saturday's game. While winning the SEC tournament is great it's not worth getting people hurt. Also one more win locks us as a host, that was the main goal here

Nah. No compeitor in the world would even consider this. We will piece it together, while not overworking people, if it happens.

I can even imagine the mutiny from the players if the coach decided to do that. Even if they get beaten by the run rule, you have to go out there and compete even if position players have to pitch.

It’s a legit question. But I think no.

You don't forfeit, but you go johnny wholestaff with your relievers and keep them on a 20-25 pitch count or something like that. Let some of the younger mid-week guys get reps in big time situations.

I agree though that Walker, Marceaux, Hess, Beck, Hilliard, Henry(probably since coming off injury) are all done until regionals. Fontenot may or may not be done for the weekend. I can see him getting an inning or two tomorrow.

I'm absolutely on board with pitching a bunch of position players on Saturday if we win tomorrow. That would be really fun to watch. We'd very likely get run ruled but it would be worth it.

With that said, I doubt it happens. If we get to Saturday, they'll do the best they can to piece out the game to pitchers before position players. It's somewhat disrespectful to the game, your pitchers, and the other team to create a comedy of it. If a position player needs to come in for a few outs or even innings, fine. But, you can't just make into a big joke.

It wouldn't be a joke though. It would be a necessity.

I'm going to copy and paste something I said in another thread, since I'm mostly going to repeat myself, anyway.

"Like I was saying in my above post, I don't see the guys who have had extended use this week being brought back before Sunday. If we made it that far, they could all go for a short time, and I don't think that would be a problem with plenty of off time to follow. So I don't think we need to worry about extra stress. It's simply a matter of can Moffit go deep tomorrow, leaving enough available guys for Saturday (if we win), and can those available guys, who will all be low leverage/seldom used pitchers, get us through Saturday.

If they can, great. But it seems highly unlikely, and I don't think Mainieri is going to be dumb and rush anybody back to try to win this tourney."

In other words, it would take some heroic efforts to get to Sunday, and then we'd have some guys able to come back for short outings, and piece it together. If that doesn't work, and we are down to position players on Saturday (if we make it there) then I would throw them out there. I'd only forfeit over a death, if the players told me they couldn't play after that.

20 years ago or so, Bama was betting the pants off of us in last game of regular season. It was 16-0 (or something). LSU ran out of pitchers and put in Wally Pontiff (if I remember correctly).
Those 65 mph fastballs looked funny.
