I don't I am just amazed some think it was an error. He was charging in, baserunner flashed in front of him, mangum is fast, it was a slow roller, and the throw would have been touch. If he had fielded it perfectly and thrown I can almost guarantee it would have been reviewed.

Not routine, but like someone previously stated, a play that a .230 hitter needs to make.

The ball had top spin and got to Broussard in plenty of time and based on Mangum's position down the line when Broussard "received" the ball, a normal transition from glove to hand would have resulted in the game winning out, IMO.

But the big picture is definitely not lost in all of this. This is not a team you should be living and dying on every pitch with, and if you are, last night should have cured you.

You can't allow SBs EVERY time and get thrown out EVERY time and compete for championships. And you can debate on whether bunting is the correct decision or not, but when the bunt is decided, you can't fail to get it down like this team does and expect to win either.

This team doesn't deserve a regional and will not get one.

So a bobble in the 16th caused us to lose a 17 inning game?

Yes it did when it was 5-4 LSU leading in the bottom of the 16th with 2 outs. Yes indeed it cost LSU the game.

Some of you just seem to want to be a smartass all the time and you post before you think and obviously you didn't even watch the game or read about it. You just wanted to post and try to put someone else down but instead made yourself look silly.

I agree with Sam. He shouldn’t have given way to the base runner. I think he should have tried to field it and tag the runner. As you said, if there’s contact, runner is out by rule. But it was a difficult play.

Not that terrible honestly. It was hit very slow and, with Mangum running, it was 50/50 as to whether he would have thrown him out even if he did field it cleanly. Therefore, he was trying to make a "perfect" play and rush as quickly as he could. Also, the field was soaking wet with dew the last several innings so the ball wasn't reacting the same as normal and it was obviously very slippery once you got your glove/hand on it.

It was far from a routine play. It sucked that it would have ended the game but if it would have happened at other point in the game, it wouldn't have been a big deal at all.

I just watched the replay, and he gets Mangum out if he fields the ball cleanly. But that was a tough ball to field cleanly having to charge it and the ball taking a bad hop.

With Mangum running was going to be bang-bang play. No margin for error.

Not sure if the runner headed to 2nd blocked his view if only for a split second.

Even if he makes a clean play on the ball I don’t think he gets him at first. First of all he was playing near the grass and the batter was a lefty with speed. One major consideration as this game went on into the night was that dew started to form heavily on the grass. So much so that yes the ball started to kick up a rooster tail from the moisture. Tough loss… Hopefully they got a little sleep last night and can get it together for today’s game.

So called Tiger fans who criticize LSU players on a judgment error or fielding error, probably never played at the college baseball level, and their critical comments are immature and inappropriate. I also did not play college baseball but I am a LSU graduate and loyal fan in all sports.

I am a senior citizen and no pics of my beautiful wife will be provided. Furthermore, I started 5 years on my high school baseball team and made all-state two years, and coached youth baseball for 14 years; this does not make an expert, but I do understand that baseball is a game of inches and baseball is not like basketball and football where the best team usually wings. I fell sorry for those who do not understand these simple principles.

And the Broussard play was tough. Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but he also had the runner from 1st pass him just as the ball got there, adding to the distraction.

Someone who hits would be forgiven. Someone who is around .200 on the year and who is in for their defense is not.

Yet another dweeb. If a dude wants to talk about the game then he should know the score and situation being discussed. You nitwits are truly amazing.

If you go back to my original statement I asked a question about an error in the 16th causing us to lose a game in 17 innings because I didn't watch or know and edited it immediately once I read the update. If you'd put your third grade insult book away and stop thinking everyone's out to get you maybe you'd make a friend or two.
