Employers across the country panic over the potential loss of immigrant workers after the Trump administration sends out 577,000 Social Security no-match letters
The Trump administration revived a practice of informing employers when the Social Security Administration detects a mismatch between the name and Social Security number of a worker.
It had been at least a decade since employers had received Social Security Administration letters notifying them of discrepancies and instructing them to rectify them. That means informing their workers, who are likely to quit immediately if they are undocumented.

Crap on that - each of those 'non-match' SS numbers is evidence of a fraud. There needs to be criminal charges filed - perhaps give them a break if they SELF - DEPORT so we don't have to deal with them anymore.

I fully support a robust guest worker program in the agricultural and hospitality industries once we get immigration policy squared away and actual, concrete enforcement.
But first, mandatory e-Verify for all employers and felony charges for those that enable, encourage, or fail to prevent fraud. It is a federal felony to purchase a firearm in lieu of another person or to allow it to happen; there's no reason the punishment should be less for identity theft and tax fraud.
