Teaching children comprehensive sex ed? I hear pedophiles are big on that idea.It is the parents job to teach about sex when they feel it is appropriate.

I'm not suggesting that anything is a reason to have an abortion.
I do know that when you read surveys about why women elected to have an abortion, you quickly find a pattern of economic and familial instability.
So why not attack those root causes? People on this board say all the time they would rather pay for the social welfare of unaborted children than to continue the practice, this is a concrete policy that would demonstrate that.
There are 6,000 abortions in Alabama every year. If you can prevent even 5-10% of those by guaranteeing women that they will still have a job after they give birth, that they will not suffer financially (immediately) while they recuperate, that their partner will be there to help them - would thay not be worth it?

quote:That's more than triple the number of abortions annually. The argument that getting rid of abortion would lead to an increase in kids lost to the foster care system is a crock of crap.
There are currently over 2 million couples waiting to adopt a baby.

Pregnant women don't get abortions when they feel secure in their ability to take care of a child or otherwise give it a loving home.
LOL the United States is the most “secure” nation to ever exist. People are using abortion for birth control. It’s that simple. No personal responsibility. The government could give everyone $100k a year and people would still run from the consequences of their own actions. No amount of money or access to healthcare will change that.

I guess a response of “I was too irresponsible to not have sex until I had economic and familial stability” was not available. How low expectations you must have for people to think they are incapable of not being responsible for their own bodies.
ETA: if you are expecting the government to provide economic and familial stability, you are wanting the government to become the baby daddy.

Um...the Ocare Medicaid expansion is for able bodied adults with no children.
Unborn children are eligible for Medicaid in Alabama.

We already give welfare to women who have babies and can't afford them so I have no fricking idea what you're talking about

I would like to see the evidence supporting those claims.

All banning abortion in Alabama is going to do is make Alabama a bigger Welfare State than it already is and make the state eventually go blue. Educated people aren't having abortions. It is the lower common denominator in society that do. This won't hold up anyway but it is like people don't think these things through. These babies aren't going to support themselves once they are born.

The one thing you left off that is completely free : abstain from sexual intercourse

The absolute lowest.
Show me one time in history when puritan legislation has prevented people from engaging in sex.

And none of these will help.
To be honest, education doesn't help all that much either. Don't get me wrong, it can help but you have to use that education.
We had very good sex education in high school and yet we continually had teenage pregnancies.
Why? Because young people don't use their brains when having sex.
You can teach "use a condom" and event hand them out for free... Still going to be those couple's that are stupid and don't listen.
We don't need more government. We simply need more cognitive ability.
But that's asking too much.
Hence the reason you want government intervention.

Well, if we want to go to these rather extreme ends, then I will go to my own “extreme” end:
How about everyone take some personal responsibility for their actions? If you want to ensure that you don’t get pregnant, don’t engage in sexual intercourse. People act as though abstinence is impossible and that unwanted pregnancy is unavoidable.

I am pro abortion. But those talking points won't work. Just show them the bill for taking care of unwanted children. It is past time for the federal gov to step-in in the black belt regions and reduce poverty. Those places are third world. They just hoped post civil war they would go away. The next thing you do is stop the Mexicans. They are destroying the rural white communities with meth. These two groups make up 90% of abortion cases.
ETA:
As someone else stated, your professionals aren't having abortions. It is the poors that will depend on welfare.
