The fire at Notre Dame got me to thinking what would an equivalent loss to the US be? One that is an iconic national image and deeply tied to our spirit as a nation?

Perhaps losing the twin towers?
Golden Gate Bridge?
Mt Rushmore?
US Capitol, Lincoln memorial?
Sequoia trees? (Perhaps the only thing here as old as the cathedral)
Great Arch?

What safety and fire prevention efforts might we see stem from this in an effort to preserve heritage sites? Seems like they could have just had a few fire tankers on site for the work, have fire hoses/sprinklers incorporated into the scaffolding for use.

Probably something like the Whitehouse.

America doesn't have any old world landmarks that took hundreds of years to build and have stood tue test of time for 500+ years

The twin towers were worse because of the death toll, but I don’t think they were as iconic to the U.S. as Notre Dame is to France. I think it’d have to be the White House or Capitol in the U.S.

Nothing we have would be equivalent. The cathedral was built in the 12th century. We have nothing that compares to the things that building has seen and it's history.
