The Canadian officials also sited “new information” when they implemented their ban this morning. See below. Not sure if connected to the US decision.
quote:
#Breaking Canada bans Boeing 737 Max 8s after new information obtained from satellite intel this morning #cdnpoli
quote:
#Breaking Min Garneau says there are similarities that "exceed a certain threshold in our minds" to the cause of what happened in Ethiopia in terms of similarities to the Lion Air crash a few months ago, and that new information is what triggered the Cdn ban on Boeing 737 Max8s
quote:
Garneau notes that the information is not conclusive but the vertical fluctuations in the plane before the Ethiopian crash had similarities to Lion air crash, and those similarities which exceeded the govt's threshold and raised concerns enough to ban the Max 8s #cdnpoli

I wonder if the CEO goes down with the plane at this point. Someones head is going to roll because of this and he seems to be the easiest target.

We are seeing something transpire that we havent seen in a long long time concerning a U.S. based aerospace company. It's obvious that the Trump administration got word of this new info and did what needed to be done. Boeing is going to have to replace the software and retrofit all MAX aircraft, and it will be costly, mainly in terms of the damage done to it's name.

i think the CEO is trying to avoid criminal prosecutions at this point and his job is toast no matter what

Anyone with common sense could read that the same thing is occurring in these things. Good they grounded them but this is going to be brutal

Sounds like Boeing is fricked

I wonder how long it will take Southwest's maintenance people to peel all of the MAX stickers off the side of the planes and replace them with
737-800.
737-800.

Boeing Press Release
quote:
In Consultation with the FAA, NTSB and its Customers, Boeing Supports Action to Temporarily Ground 737 MAX Operations
quote:
March 13, 2019 – Boeing continues to have full confidence in the safety of the 737 MAX. However, after consultation with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and aviation authorities and its customers around the world, Boeing has determined -- out of an abundance of caution and in order to reassure the flying public of the aircraft’s safety -- to recommend to the FAA the temporary suspension of operations of the entire global fleet of 371 737 MAX aircraft.
“On behalf of the entire Boeing team, we extend our deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of those who have lost their lives in these two tragic accidents,” said Dennis Muilenburg, president, CEO, Chairman of The Boeing Company.
“We are supporting this proactive step out of an abundance of caution. Safety is a core value at Boeing for as long as we have been building airplanes; and it always will be. There is no greater priority for our company and our industry. We are doing everything we can to understand the cause of the accidents in partnership with the investigators, deploy safety enhancements and help ensure this does not happen again.”
Boeing makes this recommendation and supports the decision by the FAA.

So if pilots have been reporting issues with a downward pitch when engaging autopilot, why have they not taken action? How long has this model been in service?

Wonder which lawyer recommended the "out of abundance of caution" phrase when they were drafting that
