The last time I saw a thread this long on the movie board was that one time Disney ruined a fan favorite franchise.

She said she'd like to see more than just white men review films targeted at women of color.
Insecure white dudes everywhere lost their shite.
I feel like one has to be looking to clock themselves in victimhood not to see the logic in her comments.
When I was in college I would occasionally read and watch Sikel and Ebert reviews and while I knew if they gave two thumbs up it was likely to be a good movie if somewhat on the literature level but if I went by them I would have never seen Friday. It would have been very useful to me at the time to have had reviewers that aligned with my age and mentality at the time to help sort between the Friday and Friday After Next type movies.

Latest news is that cineplexes across the country are ONLY selling tickets to Captain Marvel for this Friday night March 8th.

Finding that hard to believe. The theaters are working out their schedules for the weekend. If you go to the theater sites that only have Captain Marvel listed, you'll see that it's only on the prime screens.

That reminds me, I need to buy my ticket for the movie. And by ticket I mean another one for Fighting with my Family and sneak in.

Guess they're going to dust off that rumored second cut off end game where her role is drastically reduced.

This is the first Marvel movie that my wife has zero interest in seeing. I'm sure she'll come with me to see it, but the trailers have all fallen flat for her. And she's a huge Marvel Studios fan.
She's ecstatic about the Shazam movie.

Does anyone honestly believe that Marvel would allow the penultimate movie to the MCU culmination who’s hero likely will be the turning point for Earths Mightiest Heroes to defeat Thanos and undo the Snap to be a feminist driven bomb and potentially undo a decade of character development and buildup?
I don’t.
And then I remembered this....

There are plenty of movie critics you could have mentioned and probably been on target but including Roger Ebert in this ends up being wrong IMO. Ebert loved most movies that invoked black american culture in a positive way. He was, not coincidentally, married to a black woman until the day he died.
He wasn't perfect, but his snobbery was more fiercely focused on chuck norris type movies or horror movies (which IMO both he and gene siskel famously misunderstood as forms of misogyny when the protagonists and survivors were typically female).
The most interesting thing about this? You would not have predicted any of those outcomes based on his external demographic as an old fat white man. Not the focus on misogyny distorting his view of a genre ripe with allegorical story telling, not the dislike of most action movies, and not the love of movies like "hoop dreams" and "do the right thing" more than just about anything else he ever reviewed.

Speaking of reviews-the movie opens in 4 days... when does the review embargo lift? Nothing yet on Rotten Tomatoes.

The premiere is going on now. Some legit leaks will come ASAP. I can probably tell you most of the early buzz and then the reality will hit over the next week or so.

It's been skewed so much that it is no where close to an accurate assessment of true interest in the movie.
It's obviously the true interest of the people posting.
You think people are thinking damn, I really wanna see this movie but I'm gonna post no interest because of politics?
I'm gonna try and sabotage the movie I really wanna see?

Ghostbustered or not, those are people who don't want to see the movie. Just like those who didn't want to see the new Ghostbusters. The RT question simply asked, interest in the movie.
It's not like the RT voting was misrepresenting the actual interest.
Or that it was artificially skewed and not true - people who really wanted to see it certainly had a chance to vote.
