I’m surrounded by hares.

Guy that works for me has no license and no vehicle. Not an issue for me because I fly him out to projects. I’ve talked to him about ways to get his life together and stop working for me and start being his own boss because he is talented. Every time we have a few projects in a row and he gets a pile of money, he gets too comfortable (changes his spending habits) and pisses it away. He also doesn’t work much when he’s home between projects because he’s sitting on some cash. Despite severe, real-world consequences, he won’t pull himself out of his hole because he can’t keep his foot on the proverbial gas pedal and maintain a sense of urgency.

My own damned daughter lives this way. No matter how I try to teach her and let her face the consequences of this type of behavior, she continues to stay behind the 8-ball despite enormous potential.

I find the effort is actually less when you give 100% effort up front and stay ahead vs trying to play catch up because you got too comfortable with what you thought was some breathing room. Recreation is also far more enjoyable when you don’t have things looming that should have been taken care of or things that you know you should be doing instead of relaxing.

What causes people to get comfortable and take their foot off the gas in life? Before having kids, I’d have said not being raised right, but now I have to consider the possibility that it could also be an innate character flaw in some people. Whatever the cause, it drives me crazy watching intelligent, talented people flailing around and holding themselves back because they lack discipline or self-control.

Why does one want to spend their life with the foot on the gas? All your doing is creating anxiety.

I hope she's pretty because life will be very difficult for her if she isn't.

We're probably going to need to see several pics of her to help you make a fully-informed decision here sport.

I have no debt, while this guy struggles to make a $500 rent payment on time every month. If I were going to sum up his life in one word, it would be “anxiety”. I do have some anxiety by choice, but none of it is related to being able to take care of my family’s basic needs.

Whatever someone’s goals are, big or small, they can be achived with much less stress and anxiety by giving 100% of the required effort up front and living with discipine. His goals are very rudimentary and he’s still falling short because he isn’t willing or able to do what it takes to meet them.

My daughter would have very little to worry about in life if she would handle her business, but lives with anxiety because of consequences that she brings on herself. I have explained to her how her troubles are going to magnify exponentially once she doesn’t have us supporting us unless she learns to prioritize and execute, but it seems to go in one ear and out the other.

She is very pretty (she’s 15, so don’t ask). Her life is still going to be difficult, though.

She values her freedom seemingly over all else, but discipline = freedom. To her it seems counterintuitive. She doesn’t yet understand that if she doesn’t learn to control her life, someone else will happily step in and do it for her. A lot of pretty women skate through early life and don’t learn real life lessons until they are stuck depending on shitty men to support them. Most good men passed on them for slightly less attractive women who had their lives together.

A cousin of mine was a beauty queen and her life has gone so far off the rails that she ended up on Dr Phil. She got away with bad behavior because of her looks and it became engrained.

Fishing
Life experiences
Traveling....that's my real job. The other is what pays me to do so.

Not everyone wants to go go go.

I rather less responsibility and money in trade for more time off to do what I want.

I agree with having some discipline in life but in the big picture of things goals don't mean shite. We are all headed back to the same place eventually. Some sooner, some later. I don't think we were put on this Earth to compete in a mindless rat race. We were just conditioned to believe that so that corporations and fat cats at the top can profit off of our angst and perceived "lack". It's the structure of our society that is out of whack. Living the so-called good life is not the recipe for true lasting happiness and contentment.

The adult I can understand you being concerned about, but a 15 year old. Teenagers have very little discipline and drive. Now if she is the same way at 25 you have a problem.
