Not getting timely released from jail after sentence ends

Searched, didn't see a thread.
I don't care how "tough on crime" one is, this is absolutely unacceptable. How is this even a thing with all the tech and tools available to us.
When your sentence ends, you go home. If no one is available to send you home, we give you a bus ticket home. We are supposed to have re-entry programs in place that handle all of this.

Louisiana’s prison system and local jails, including the Orleans Justice Center, routinely keep people locked up for weeks, months, some even years, after they are supposed to be released, according to a 2017 state auditor’s report, defense attorneys and former inmates.

It’s like the old saying goes...Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time (plus whatever fricking time they decide to keep you just for the hell of it.)

Louisiana DOC got another set of rules ... that they make up as they go... it’s completely separate from local and state policies

Keeping the jail filled keeps the money coming.

Imagine sitting in jail, knowing you should be a free man by the letter of the law and order of a judge, and not being able to leave the jail for months because they just haven't gotten around to it.
That is so incredibly fricked up.

I think they should build more prisons and expand ones already in place.

I've never understood this. Defendant is in the courtroom. Judge releases them...why in the absolute hell can they not step off into a side location, change their clothes...and leave?

Because who ever is in charge of this is probably employed by the state and....well....have you ever seen state jobs done correctly and/or efficiently?

Is there a reason why the inmates that are being kept too long aren’t speaking up? Do they not know they’ve been freed?
I assume that if I was in jail, I would know, to the second, when I would be allowed to walk free.

I got wrongfully arrested for a DWI once. Blew a 0.0 but the cop said he could sense something wasn’t right. Charges got dropped. However, spent 18 hours in jail, almost lost my job, and had a lot of explaining to do before I was set ‘free’. Not even an apology was given.

In general, when you have a question like that in this state, you either need to see who stands to lose money or who feels they're not getting paid enough.

Rich people don't go to jail

shite, an excel document for each prison with a weekly update would be more efficient than whatever they are using now
Posted on 2/18/19 at 12:43 pm to LSUFanHouston
easy solution, just sue the frick out of them and get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for every extra day you spend in jail
money is all they care about so its the only way to enforce competence in running jails

One concern is that keeping people in prison when they should be released is costing Louisiana TAXPAYERS millions of dollars. One guy was kept for 3 YEARS past his sentencing time. State had to pay for those three years plus settle with him for over $ 120,000.00

Yeah that sucks...... I feel bad for those that this happens to..........
But all you have to do is not get arrested in the first place. Pretty easy.
