A kid shouldn't need extra tutoring if it's smart enough for the subject. Take the low grade and move on. Help them only with shite they are good at. ie. geometry tutor is wasteful, if he needs a tutor, he'll never be asked to use it to earn a living. But if he likes computer shite enroll him in an after school program. Encourage what they are good at, frick the rest.

This is TERRIBLE advice. What grade school level subjects are OK with not mastering? My god your kids better be self motivated.

ETA: I have 2 kids in middle school. I demand A's with some B's mixed in occasionally. I demand this because I KNOW THEY CAN. If they were to start struggling, Damn straight I would be in there doing homework and Making up practice tests for them. If they are trying their damndest and still having trouble with certain subjects, then that is just how life is. Some people struggle with studies and tests. It's ok to struggle (if you are trying). It is not OK to avoid giving your studies your utmost effort, if that is what is required.

An A in public school means you have some really awesome rule followers. Congrats on being the best at doing what you’er told!

Screw you. I get hauled in by my admins all the time and asked why kids are struggling as if I’m not teaching. The kids they ask about are lazy and unmotivated and never give any effort. How about we call them on the carpet?

If your kid gives any effort at all, I could make him proficient in my subject. Desire starts with the student.

fricking bingo. I do like you Chad but this guy nailed it. If you have a problem with it, don't have a fricking child. Everything they do is your responsibility and it's your job to be involved in it and not complain about it. You need to deal with it.

Demand their best, always, not a letter.

Not every kid is smart enough to keep pace. They might need extra time and attention at home to keep up. In grade school you don’t eventually catch up but you fall futher and futher behind your classmates.

Parents are far more important to a childs education than teachers.

You should probably post less and use that time for the benefit of your child.

So you're one of those "it's never mine or my kid's fault, always blame the teacher types"? Do you have one of those "Can I speak to the manager?" haircuts too?

It's called participating in your kids education. Did you not know that teachers have 25 or more kids in the room for the 8 hours they teach, and can't always give individualized instruction to little chad.

What kind of idiot are you?

How dare that teacher lay out a plan to supplement classroom instruction to help your child stay on schedule with their academic progress. Looks like this is a teacher that cares about your child. Parental involvement is the number one indicator of academic success. I've been a teacher for over 10 years and rarely do children with involved parents struggle.

That being said there are a ton of really bad teachers that just collect a check and complain about not getting paid enough. We have a bunch of teachers that are vastly under paid but the majority don't deserve to be paid at all.

Our education system is outdated. We are applying essentially 18th century learning tactics in a world where we have supercomputers in our hands

This shite ^ right here!

On another note, as someone who has had parents, grandparents, relatives, former spouses, and daughters-in-law in teaching, I find one trait and one thing that seems to be the problem. The system itself.
When my kids were younger, they brought home daily notes telling me to do shite in the most disorganized, haphazardly manner. The Who, What, When, Where, Why was just buried in the minutiae of gobbledygook false praise for the teachers and students. It would be things like “tomorrow is T-shirt day, but no long T-shirts, but Wednesday they can have free dress if they bring $1. But the T-shirt day is a canned good. Monday is movie day bring 2.50 for that, and Friday is your day for snacks or you can send $10 by last Thursday. And they get out early Friday and that is the day for the field trip so bring $2 or they will be watching the movie with the poor children”

The system has them teaching for a Test that doesn’t teach them shite. None of my kids brought or bring homework home. They’ve had varied grades. The 2 smart ones never bring a book home and made all A’s. The lesser student was like WWIII just to get them to actually read a book let alone study. Some can work the system, but some kids don’t fit into the square holes if they are a triangle. But hey, the less smarter kid was real good at sports, so there’s that.

It is interesting.

I have had more homework since my kid has been in school (now 4th grade) than I ever did growing up.

And worse, they way I learned and know math seems to no longer be valid.

I can count on one hand how many times I did homework the entire time I was in school (k-12)

Which is to say I can only count up to 5 because I only did homework 5 times in 13 years of school.

Go Rockets!
