Activision Blizzard in trouble, 800 fired in first wave of layoffs

CNBC article
Not the sole reason, but not releasing COD BLOPS 4 on Steam for PC and putting it on Battle.Net didn't help and culled sales, also slapping the community in the face with that Diablo Immortal announcement. WoW is old and overstayed now.
You can't run a company on just Overwatch which apparently has been lackluster recently.
Feel bad the employees have to suffer because of upper level management.

The layoffs would be part of a restructuring effort as the company faces sluggish sales

Can't overcome poor decisions in all your major products and expect things to be great. WoW has been stuck on repeat for the last 4 expansions, nothing really notably new or interesting in a long time in that game.

Might as well make Overwatch F2P now.
Hearthstone has some new competition in the digital card game market now too (MTG Arena).
Maybe their strategy is to ride out the Battle Royale fad - good luck running a business on that trend ending soon though.

Why?
Diablo Immortal will make millions! We all have phones.

Don't worry. That Diablo mobile game will save everything!

I hope you have stock in Valve. Do you have relations with the owner?

The love sick steam fanboy'ism is something.

I thought this was mostly due to the Activision/Bungie split.

I would imagine that was it.

LOL at the next Call of Duty.
they are bringing back the campaign, no, not a new one, they are remastering MW2 campaign. LOLOL Talk about a shite franchise with lazy arse studios.

Sorry for the employees but this is likely due to shitty management decisions.
You can only run annual updates of certain games for so long before they wear out their welcome or get replaced by something better.
